I mimicked the English one Saturday 20 November 2004. Good times!
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I like how it said 2 in 5 drink before making love to relax or lose their inhibitions.

Honestly I don't think I've ever met a brit who didn't have an alcohol problem. Of course, none of them admit it or even realise it.

12 million... that's just sad.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Especially when alcohol results in reduced physical arousal.

Drinking is Britain's national sport.

Not being religious, over eating and over drinking are kind of the point of the festive season in my household.

Flex, at the risk of sounding defensive (which I know I will), what do you define as a drinking problem?

Hey just because I started drinking at 12, brought vodka into school frequently for 2 years and am drinking a beer right now it doesn't mean the UK has a drinking problem... much... Besides I think Scottland and traviling Irish make up a significant amount of that statistic.

You need food to live, that's different.

pfft, you also need to enjoy yourself or you'll go insane.
If you enjoy yourself by drinking, then great, so long as its not hurting anyone (of course, it can/will cause you some problems, but your going to die anyway I say)
People with drinking problems no longer enjoy themselves, they do it for other reasons.

I don't need huge amounts of turkey, roast potatoes, parsnips with parmesan on, three different types of stuffing, swede and mashed potato, brussel sprouts, green beans, red cabbage, cranberry sauce, bread sauce and gravy to survive. Overeating is a serious health issue, certainly on your side of the Atlantic.

(just for the amusement of anyone else, I'd like to mention that Flex and I are currently on msn discussing the ingredients of the sandwich I have to invent if ever he suddenly dies -

maevie says:
have you told me what you actually want in the sandwich? or am I just making the biggest one possible?
Flexor says:
oh no, just use your imagination
Flexor says:
try to use ingredients that best represent my personality

I just thought it was funny..)

Damn my dirty mind, I imagined you implied something else there :p

I eat lots of good food, I dont eat lots of McDonalds and pizza, but I do have a problem with sugar.
I pour sugar onto everything, and chocolate and sweets I'm terrible with.
In fact i'm downing 2 dissolvable painkillers right now. Not cos I'm in pain, but cos they're sweet and tasty.

And when you live close to the border you can celebrate both canadian and american thanksgivings, so that's two extra food holidays!

ah well, christmas is a buzz without booze nevertheless, booze just adds to the random partyness of the christmas atmosphere.

I know Martyn does this, I know Spe does this, and I know other non-massassian brits that do this. Most brits DO have a drinking problem--though how the hell it's news to anyone I don't know.

Martyn and myself (spe?) are students. Sad to say, most of us live up to our reputations - lazy, drunken, penniless... But that's students, hardly the entire population. I don't go out during the week, so no, not everyday. I might go out once a week, if that, and I don't generally get that drunk even when I do.

I dunno, I'm generally not that bothered by the whole 'brits being drunk' stereotype, but the assumption that every person in this country has a drinking problem is ridiculous. How the hell would anyone get anything done?
