A long while back I made a post about Kuma\War. Now I bring you news of the next step backwards in gaming.

Survivor.

Hmm. What kind of scenarios would make a good disaster game?

The Sinking of the Titanic - 1,500 dead (1992)?

Hiroshima - 200,000 dead (1945)?

Mexico City Earthquake - 25,000 (1985)?

Hurricane Andrew - 23 dead, thousands left homeless (1999)?

Shopping Mall Fire, Paraguay - 300 dead (2004)?

How about 9/11?

All of them, apparently.

This is going to cause quite a stir, I think.

That's so wrong. :(

Oh fun! I've always dreamed of being crushed by several thousand tons of concrete. Now I can finally live out my fantasy!
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

I agree this will kick up quite a stir but some of these aren't too bad. I think hurricane andrew, titanic and the earthquake in mexico city could be quite fun to play. I don't see the difference between them and a world war 1/2 game. Replaying things like 9/11 and hiroshima would not be quite as appropriate though...

indeed this sounds like it might actually be kinda fun for some missions, likie the huricane or earthquake, or even the titanic...

So after the atom bomb is dropped, I can steal a car and have sex with a hooker, then beat people to death with a baseball bat?

Good point. I remember there was that one game, I think for the SNES, called S.O.S. That had you playing someone trying to escape from a sinking ship.

Oh, and that Japanese survival game set in a city going through an earthquake, now that I think of it. Penny Arcade did a comic on it, but that's all I remember.

Would this be different than the numerous war games on the market?

Different in that war is different to civilian catastrophes.

OPS2 put it quite well, I think:

"If we're talking about civilian tragedy, though, it can be a little harder to know when the line between gritty depiction and omigodchristalmighty is being transgressed."

I suppose that might be due to the fact that games based on wars have been done to death already, so we have a general idea where the line is.

Although I don't believe anyone signed up to burn to death inside a shopping mall, for example. The whole game just strikes me as extreme.

How exactly would the Hiroshima level work? Do I just walk around for 5 minutes, and then my screen turns all white, and the level is over?

I don't understand how you're supposed to play..

You walk around for a little while, then a lot of lag and screen shaking occurs, and then you die?

And are you the same person throughout each level? If so.. what an unlucky SOB.

The goal is probably to figure out the correct things to do to survive the dissaster.
