Charlie and The Chocolate Factory: Starring Johnny Depp

Apparently it's a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". The movie has alot to live up to considering how brillant the original is (so far it doesn't look like it's living up to my expectations).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367594/

Pure imagination, seems like it has been turned into hip hop?

Wonka looks a bit feminine...

I like the old Oompa Loopa better.

Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter?

This looks like it has the potential to be awesome.

Agreed.

Wonka looks like he had a sex change....

Bleh.

I think it will be great to see another spin on this movie. As long as we don't immediatly compair it to it's original, it should be quite good.

I listened to the .wav, and I'm a bit angry with the guitar solo and the hip-hop beat added in. Hopefully, I can get just as high watching this movie as I did with the original...

It will be different. But I don't doubt it will be great in it's own way.

BTW the clip posted reminds me tons more of some odd Down-tempo/fusion hybrid much much more than hip hop (broken beat does not = hip-hop).

If I say "this film will be mostly crap and Johnny Depp will end up carrying it" then I have a 90% chance of being right, based on every other film he's been in.
2004-11-22, 7:29 PM #13
This is the worst idea ever... no Willy Wonka remake will EVER compare the the original.
2004-11-22, 7:37 PM #14
This had better be the darkest version of the movie ever. I'm really counting on Burton to come through with this, but we'll see...
2004-11-22, 7:39 PM #15
I'll make this short and concise.

1)Johnny Depp
2)Tim Burton
3)...?
4)PROFFIT!

Any Tim Burton movie with Johnny Depp in it is going to be awesome. You can be sure this will be a quite darker Wonka. :)

“As far as I know, the cover of "Pure Imagination" was not made for the new movie. Rather, it was made for a compilation album called "Mary Had A Little Amp", which contains modern covers of old child-oriented songs.”

That picture of Depp does have a feminine look, and bears a creepy semblence to the nefarious Pee-Wee Herman *shudders violently in horror*

Don't fix a movie that's not broken.

Wrong.

Wrong.

It's an adaptation of the book titled "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

While the original movie was a classic in it's own right, it was a TERRIBLE adaptation and didn't bare much resemblence to the book.

I think this movie has potential, I've liked Burton's last two directoral jobs (Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish). Whenever Johnny and Burton are together, magic happens.

Also, Gene Wilder > *.

While Gene Wilder was awesome as Wonka, I think Depp looks more like what I imagined him to look like as I read the book. I'm really excited about this movie. The first one was really lame and Wilder really carries the movie, maybe Depp will have to as well, but I dunno...

They're filming bits in York at the Nestle factory where my dad works :D

I take bribes from ladies wanting bits of Mr Depp severed in accidents (I was thinking hair, but realised how dodgy that sounds)...
2004-11-23, 3:14 AM #28
Balls. I thought Burton would make this uber dark...

Quote:
Trivia: Screenwriter John August had never even seen Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) when asked by Tim Burton to write the script. After finishing the screenplay, he finally watched the 1971 version, only to be surprised at how much darker the "family film" was to his own.
2004-11-23, 5:59 AM #29
i hope that this movie is based on the BOOK and not considered a remake of the '71 movie
i loved the old movie but i loved the book first.

i also recommend Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator :D

Nestle is making Wonka Bars as a promo for the film.

They've been making 'em for years. They bought the rights ages ago, they might be cutthroat gits, but Nestle aren't daft.
2004-11-23, 9:00 AM #32
Nestle have made wonka stuff for years and years, the best thing was the chocolate bras with nerds in them, what happened to nerds anyway? did they stop making them?

I really hate K-Mart and Wal-Mart. Target is ok, only because they dont edit their CDs without telling you.
