1) I know you can buy the three different "editions" online, but can you buy them in the store? I've only seen the base one thus far (no silver or gold).

2) More importantly, is the following statement correct? "If I buy the game in the store, I will only be able to play the game if I am connected to the internet." If yes, would that be true everytime I want to play the game, or just the first time? (My computer at home is not connected to the intenet, thus I would be most unhappy if that were the case.)

No Steam is owned by Valve and the people who publish the boxed version is Vivendi. So only Valve is offering those packages over the internet and Vivendi is just offering HL2.

You have to be connected to the internet to unlock your copy of HL2 (it only does this once). After that you can run the game offline via steam.

You can buy the "Collectors Edition" which I THINK is roughly the Gold version I believe. My mommy picked up the regular version for me. I love you mommy! :)
