If by "way too paranoid" you mean "dumbasses", then yes.

I'm spamming them with 4000 e-mails of explicit sexual material as we speak. These e-mails will continue to be sent for the next 4 years, or until they realize that NONE OF THIS IS NEW. Every other e-mail service could do the EXACT SAME THINGS as Gmail, and do they? You bet they do. Do we find out about it? Never. And most importently: does it matter? Not at all. We all assume we have 'rights' online.

You should never send out over email personal info that you dont want anyone to ever find out about you anyways. Regardless of the service.

(Except maybe if you and the sender use encryption)

MSN has bots that go through your IM conversations searching for links for its search engine. People still use it.

http://mrbark.org/msn - it's in French, though.

[edit]Hmm... not working. Here's the Google cached version: http://www.google.ca/search?q=cache:CfQKvyvo27gJ:mrbark.org/msn+mrbark&hl=en&client=firefox-a

From the terms of service for MSN Messenger:
Quote:
Remarque : Microsoft ne lit aucun de vos messages privés du service .NET Messenger.

"Microsoft does not read any of your privates messages sent by the .NET Messenger service."
