Sony sucks.

The 2004 holiday demo disk (Sent to most anyone who's registed their PS2s, mailed in anything with a PS2 logo on it, or has ever even touched the PS2 website) will, and has already, delete your memory card saves, and require you to reformat your 8 meg memory cards. To avoid this, don't play the viewtiful joe 2 demo, or just take your memory card OUT of the slot before playing it.

Honestly, I got my disk FAR after the issue had been publically announced, yet Sony sent me NOTHING about it. Now I'm pissed, because I lost a lot of my walkthrough saves, in which Iwas using to write elaborate walkthroughs for quite a few games.

Umm...I just played that disc today (got it in the mail)....nothing happened...stil have all my saves on both of my memory card. I even played Viewtiful Joe 2. Maybe it's on certain model PS2s.

No, you have to get to a certain point in that demo. How far did you get? Trust me, it does it to EVERY PS2. It may have to do with your brand of memory card, though.

Well, I've got a Sony PS2 Memory Card plugged into a kind of "8MB expansion" thing (still takes only one slot). Maybe that's why. I did beat the demo. It's probably the memory card. Cuz I think by default, the main memory card for me is the 8MB expansion, then I press a button to switch it to teh Sony one.

kirby, if i were you, I would just try b****ing and moaning and try and get a free memory card :). I might try it, and mine didn't even crash, heh. Just say that it won't format...

UPDATE : Apparently, sometimes it's happening with the Jak 3 demo also. So, be wary. I just sent Sony an e-mail asking for some compensation, lol.

It didn't delete the saves on my memory card and I played every game on the disc last night. Maybe I didn't play far enougn into the demo's stated above, but my card is still fine.

I recieved the demo and I noticed that Viewtiful Joe 2 isn't out there. Oh well, the only thing I played was "Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within".

It seems that there are 2 different demo disks being sent around. I'd be wary with both of them, but the one with Viewtiful Joe 2 is the one that's rumored dangerous. I've heard of it happening with the GT4 demo, as well.

dont play demo discs.

also, it only happens with those discs so blame the people that put together the demo discs.

Yes but the demo's have be made by game companies. They may release the disk... but they didn't make every game on the disk. Unless it nuked your memory card on start up and not when you tried to save in a game you can't blame them, it was an error in the game itself, not made by them.

Sure am glad I got an Xbox too, stupid Sony and their stupid memory cards... I have dozens of huge save games on my XBox but I still haven't even scratched the surface of the 55,000+ blocks free on the hard drive.

Heh till the day you load your xbox and you get this cool 3d error message that says. Hard Drive cannot be found. :)

Out of curiousity, is it possible for the X-Box's hard drive to become corrupt or anything similar to it?

Wouldn't surprise me if it did, but I'm reasonably sure there are failsafes in place to help prevent that from happening. I trust Microsoft's hardware FAR more than I will ever trust their software.

You could still park it like and other hard drive I suppose... and after a while everything breaks.
