Check this out- Doom 3 map using HL2 textures

Yeah, somebody used HL2 textures in their doom 3 map to test how things will turn out. And from the screenies I seen, it is suprisingly good.

Looks good. Maybe a horror mod using an urban setting. >:D

This would be much better if either of the mappers for D3 and HL2 using the other's textures was any good at mapping. Seriously, the HL2 with D3 textures looks horrible due to a lack in lighting, or when lighting is present, archi. And the HL2 textures in a Doom environment are severelly hindered by the lack of any archi at all. I'd like to think that HL2 and Doom 3 could show of their capabilities with the other's resources granted the levels are given ample visual tending.

Are you retarded? This is a friggin experiment, besides that, Doom 3 hasn't been mapped that much, and HL2's been out a whole week.

Way to over-analyze.

IMO the HL2 engine handles doom 3 horribly. It looks so much worse on there. It's the crappy lighting.

It seemed to be the lack of decent textures to me, but I gave it the benifit of the doubt, considering the mapping is HORRID.

It's poor mapping, not the engine. It's all been said before. Doom 3 - graphics, HL2 - interactivity and facial animations

story -neither (I liked both stories, but I'm so minoritized that I don't count)

But the thing about Doom 3 is that the same map looked awesome in that--because the lighting kicked ***. Bumpmapping made it look a lot better too. In HL2 it looks meh. In the same respect, though, HL2 maps look really good under the Doom 3 engine.

yoshi you are more biased than the HL2 fans you rag on, and its really amusing.

And back on topic, I think that looks really good. I was surprised at the depth that just textures can add to a blank wall. I hope something besides a law suit comes out of this.

Regardless of whatever anything is, jEDIkIRBY will hate it and find a way to belittle it.

That looks better than Half-Life 2 OR Doom 3.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

I hated Doom 3 but I'll admit that those shots look great, especially the one with the pipe (second last, I think.)

The only thing is that the HL2 engine runs a lot better than Doom 3 on the same system. I can run HL2 at 1280x1024, I can only dream of Doom 3 at that resolution. I'd rather a hi-res, smooth-playing game than a slightly prettier, but lo-res and choppy game.

Its the crappy lighting job done by the author, and the fact that he forgot to bring over specular and normal maps. Aswell as bumpmapping.

With the proper lighting job, it'd probably look pretty good.

I don't think we can tell anything conclusive from such a crappy map.

No, there's shots of a Doom 3 map made on the HL2 engine later on in the thread, look at it

hmmm i saw those pics, i think the mapper just is not that skilled as the level he made seems to not resemble doom3 at all. I guess when more skilled mappers and texture conversions are involved we will really know the difference. Can HL2 do hard realt time shadows???

HL2 doesn't have dynamic lighting in MP iirc. They still use .BSP format. Which is a shame, if true.

Whereas Doom 3 does have completely dynamic lighting all the way through.

I'm sure there's a way to change that, or the mod community would destroy valve hQ.

If I'm wrong, let's get the torches lit!

Even then, only if he released it. Nothing wrong with experimenting.
