Yes, that's right. Imagine sitting in a giant sphere, with 360 degrees of vision, playing a FPS like Half Life 2, or perhaps a space fighter sim like X-WIng vs. Tie Fighter, or maybe UT2k4. Now, while waiting for this giant gaming sphere to open up, walk across the building and check out the 13 foot screens you can game on. Take a seat, order a snack from the onscreen menu, then blow away a few headcrabs while waiting for it to be delivered to you.

A dream? Perhaps, for most of you. Perhaps not.

"And they imagine hundreds of these, all across the country, with the first one planned for Baltimore, Md., sometime in 2005."

For those of you who don't know... I live about 25 minutes away from Baltimore...

I know where I'll be in 2005.

If the price is right
Time is but a window
Death is but a doorway
He'll be back

Actually it alreay exists. Travel to Florida and go to "Disney Quest". There's a 360 VR lightsaber game, 360 VR pirate ship battle game, and some 4 players coop 360 mech game.

Having been there myself, I can tell you it's NOT the same thing -- the first requires a helmet=type thing that made me sick after playing it twice (not nearly as bad as the old VR for the Alladin game they had though), the pirate game is NOT 360 (it's more like hte 180 thing they showed) and I'm not entirely sure I saw the last thing you spoke of. If I did, I don't remember it being anything much else special.

/me is glad he lives in Baltimore :D

Yes, I've seen the lightsaber thing. They put a helmet on you, give you a joystick, and it's Jedi Knight, minus guns, minus the Force, minus textures, plus a room that I'm pretty sure was worse than Yoda's House (was that what it was called?).

Plus, this is something you just plug a computer into. (And a chair with a lot of big fancy things)
