Becoming a smoker... I feel dirty
2004-11-26, 12:02 PM #1
Y'see I cant really drink much anymore due to anti depressants. If I'm not careful, and I drink too much, it can highten depression, and leave me vulnerable to suicide thoughts/attempts.

but smoking??? aaahhhh!!! After only one cigarette, I feel lightheaded, dizzy, but HAPPY!!! But I fear I am becoming addicted...

Anyone else have this problem?

I would never buy the stuff but if someone offers me one I never turn it down.

I was ultra dirty on Wednesday night though. Whole pack of cigars and half a pack of cigarettes along with a 12 pack of Guinness and Paulaner. This was split between me and 2 friends.

That's what nicotene does, Ruthy. Although technically its a depressant, it has the opposite effect on some people. I'd say you're probably becoming addicted, nicotene has both a physical and mental addiction, so its a real ******* to get rid of. However, if it was a choice between alcohol and cigarettes, i'd say cigarettes are better for you, psychologically at least, especially sicne alcohol depreses you, so its the better of two evils, i'd say.

Actually, the nicotine in tobacco products is a stimulant, not a depressant if I recall correctly.

Oh, and I've never smoked. I don't really want to, either. I can't stand the smell of smoke, so definitely not an option for me.

aww aaron come on you are too hot to smoke. there's nothing worse then a guy whos all sexy and you approach and he smells like smoke, blech! There's prob. only one brand of cigarettes that smells good, oddly enough it was like this mix of cologne and cigarettes flashes me back to my childhood and this guy named Richard who I HATED but it's the only combo of cigarettes that smells good. That and cigars, but come on...aaron resist it, fight it. You are too hot to start up such a nasty habit!

I've smoked pot a couple of times, but rather as a painkiller than for kicks. Stopped though, haven't touched it for half a year, don't ever have the feeling of doing so either.
2004-11-26, 12:44 PM #13
Er, considering the rest of the psots on here, i'd jut like to clarify my position. i'm not saying its a good thing that you're smoking, ruth, but the thing is, #1 its better then drinking, IMO, and #2 its relaly hard to get rid of an addiction altogether, alot of times its simply transfered from one thing to anouther.

I smoke when I feel like it. And Don't smoke when I don't feel like it.

Usually after a pack I get sick of the taste and I don't buy any for a while.

Pot though....

QFT.

Cigarettes = Rat poison

They contain lots of crap, including [forgot most of it -- I think it includes nail polish/paint remover] and toilet bowl cleaner... do you think it's a good idea to inhale that stuff?

You can do what you want, but I recommend against smoking. It'll cost you a lot in the long run.

I've never smoked... I don't intend to.

You almost alwasy get addicted to smoking because of your own fault. Granted, most overweight people are overweight because they eat to much, but there can be many cases when they don't eat more than an average ammount of food, and still gain weight. because of a slow metabolism and such.

Ruthervain, just stop now, I have seen what happens to people who smoke all their life.

i have also seen what happens to people who smoke all their lives.
my father has been smoking for 54 years now. 2 packs a day religiously. hasn't been to see a doctor since 1981. and he gets up and goes to work every day. living the good life. and i mean that.

He's one of the lucky ones.

It can be worse, and I've seen it happen too often. Aaron, you know what I mean.

I don't really smoke at all. Occasionally a cigar or a night of ripping from a hooka.

I'm working on quitting right now. I can tell you...the pleasure you get right now will never make up for the distress it's gonna cause when you start fiending...you'll become highly agitated, feel ill without smoking, and you'll notice pretty quickly the adverse health effects.

I say quit while it's still easy...because I haven't smoked in 4 days and I feel like ****

you know it's funny. funny in weird way not a ha ha way.
i know or have known over 20 people in my family that are heavy smokers. 2 packs a day for as long as i can ever remember. over 30 years. one died from cancer. all the rest, smoking like there's no tomorrow.

now i won't dispute the medical findings, but it is weird how the propaganda has us believe that we will all die horrible deaths after long bouts of painful cancer and emphazema (sp?) when it's simply not true.
look at the stats. then look at how many people smoke. it's bad but no where near as bad as the propaganda tells us it is.
2004-11-26, 4:36 PM #30
The problem is that you can't really measure what the health effects are in those smokers. You can look at them and say that they would have lived another 10 years if they hadn't smoked or if they would have died at that time anyway.

You are wrong, simply put and scientifically backed.
Though alchohol can kill you quicker when taken in at extreme doses, under [strict] moderation it is actually healthy for you. Smoking on the other hand is harmful even under moderation due to the chemicals involved in production (yay rat poison) as well as the social aspect it seems to attract (how many designated smoking areas do you see?). Even though you may smoke 1 cigarette at one time theres usually a couple other there sharing their unfiltered smoke with you, ventilation or not.

Do the math, avoid ignorance

But drinking is fun, smoking just bring you back to normal and costs money and is sucky
2004-11-26, 6:37 PM #33
I said 'psychologically at least', as in the fact that i knew it is psychologically better, i wasn't sure about the physical effects. And it is psychologically better, as far as the effect of the nicotene. All nicotene does is, in normal cases, calm you down, or in ruth's case make him happy (really not sure what's going on there, but whatever). There is no 'DWI' for driving under the influence of nicotene. No one ever went to bed with some random girl because they were drunk on nicotene. Alchohol is consumed much faster and has a harsher psychological effect, and in Ruthy's case it even hightens his depression, while nicotene seems to ease it. Psychologically, cigarettes are better, and i never said that they were physically better.

*mob boss voice*

You can't smoke, you see? Havn't you ever watched Family Guy episode were they did Toad? Ya. You see, Ya.

*Sings*

You'll get chills all through your body
and you'll lose all control of your bladder
and your sphincter, that's your bum hole.

'Cos if you use (cigarettes), then I'm telling you...
You can kiss your life goodbye.

Yeah when you use (cigarettes),
It will mess you up.
It will make your mama cry
That's no lie,
You'll choke on your tounge and die

You've got to give it up
You got to give up the (cigarettes) now
It's no joke buddy, give it up
You got to give up the (cigarettes) now
Or you'll croke
You've got to give it up,
And don't smoke
Or you will see,
It hurts to pee

There'll be blood, gushing from ya
Everytime that you cough
And forget getting lucky,
It falls off

Yeah you'd better wise up
'Cos I'm telling you
(cigarettes) is only meant for bins

Got to give it all up
Or you're gonna see
Your whole life will hit the skids
And your kids will be born without eyelids

You've got to give it up
You got to give up the (cigarettes) now
Thanks to you
And just give it up
Give up the (cigarettes) now (line sung by Brian)
Thanks to you

Give it up
Got to give up the (cigarettes) now, Oh-oh-oooh
I'm no fool, Lando's cool
YEAH!!!

Lyrics are from Family Guy. Just changed toad with cigarettes. But the principels the same.

Add up how much money a year it will cost to support the addiction. Then make a list of all the stuff you want that you could've bought with the money saved.

There ya go.

I mean not to go all anti-drug, but this is different than just some health thing. If you buy cigarettes, drugs, booze...whatever, you're not even going to enjoy them that long. You'll just want more and more and more to no end. But what if you bought something else that would make you happy, like games or something? You can enjoy them a lot longer. Soo...what's the better financial deal?

Considering my mom has smoked pretty much since she was an adult, trust me I know cigarettes are a HUGE financial strain. Yet so pointless in the end..because you just have to go through it all over again.

i think i'm going to become good friends with a smoker, and every time thay buy a pack i'm going to put the same ammount of money in a jar, and eventully a savings account. at the end of 5 years, we will see who is on top.

smoking and drinking both eat away at money witch could be spent, worthwially, somewhere elce.

becides, the stuff makes me physically sick.
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.
