I bought WoW two days ago. Now, I don't have an extensive history of MMORPGs seeing as how the only others I have played are City of Heroes (which I've never played a character past lvl 14 because it gets so damn boring) and I played about a week of Ultima Online several years ago.
When I first started playing WoW, it sucked. All the servers were having major lag issues that pertained to item databases. However, those issues were quickly resolved and it now flows smoothly. Even on occasion when I get a ping of 600+ I still don't notice any lag. Now, I'm going to break it down category by category (note: I've only been playing two days, so this is in occordance with what I know).
Graphics: Really Good. Not Doom 3 or Half Life 2 good, but still pretty good.
Sound: I like a lot of the music on there(though music played might be class specific). SFX seem a little shaky and sometimes the sound gets alot of static, but then I think that is just my computer because that happens with Far Cry as well.
Quests: These are awesome. So far I have never been in a shortage of missions(unlike CoH) and I like how they combine grinding and missions in this game. Makes it more enjoyable. The only thing I have to gripe about is sometimes the missions are too vague on where to go. Then again, figuring out where you are supposed to go is probably the point of the mission.
Community: Despite the *****ers on my first day(about the lag), the community is rather good. The same questions get asked like "Where is Devlin Agamand? I need to kill him," or "Where do I get linen?" and I have yet to hear people say "OMG! SHUT UP! WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP ASKING THESE SAME GOD DAMNED QUESTIONS!? AAAAHHHH!!!" It's a generally helpful community.
Layout: I haven't met a load area. I've gone for Deathknell, to Brill, to Undercity, to The Selphucher(sp?)(which is easily 2-3 miles) and I haven't had any load areas(once again, unlike CoH). Some of the areas, namely Undercity, are kind of confusing, but I think Undercity was meant to be complex and confusing.
Death: I love how they have done death in this game. When you die, you have three options when your ghost spawns in a nearby graveyard. You're first option is to talk to the spirit in the graveyard and have it ressurect you. If you do this, you lose 10% durability on all equipment and some XP. You're second option is to have another player ressurect you. When this happens, I think you still lose 10% equipment durability and you are transported to the ressurecting players position plus you get a penalty to abilities for a short time(known as resurrection sickness). The third option is to run to your body and ressurect yourself. There are no penalties for doing this, other than accidently spawning yourself in the middle of a group of enemies.
Equipment: Maybe it's just me, but good equipment and abilities are quite expensive. One thing I love is that on weapons they list the weapons damage range, speed, and damage per second. The DPS makes it a lot easier to decide what weapon you want.
Overall: I love it. In addition to everything I said above, it has a very Diablo II-esque feel, minus the camera angle. Probably the biggest disappoint is that you can not customize your character as much as I heard you could. Compared to CoH, this game doesn't have a whole lot of variety. Then again, maybe it's just because I'm Undead. 9/10 (only a 9 because I'm just a beginner).
If anyone wants to contact me in the game, I'm on the Icecrown server in Mountain Standard Time section. I'll probably be in Silverpine Forest with my (currently) lvl 12 Undead Warrior named Helion.
Democracy: rule by the stupid
