Morrowind trouble already.

I went to install Morrowind, and the install got to 80% and crashed, then all of a sudden the game boots up like it fully installed..so I'm in the game and like 800 boxes pop up 'OMG SOUND FILE NOT FOUND!', so I go to uninstall and I can't. Every time I click uninstall I get this

'SetF.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.'

Help me daddy...
Think while it's still legal.

you might have to do a manual uninstall
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2004-11-26, 7:14 PM #3
How can I do that?

delete all the files in the morrowind folder... and remove some registry entries...
eat right, exercise, die anyway

or... do it via control panel... I'm pretty sure it doesn't run the same uninstall as if you did it with the game...

Go to control panel, and then go to add/remove programs, select it... blah blah blah... It's pretty intuitive, once you get there.

Is it the game of the year edition?
2004-11-26, 7:25 PM #7
I already tried it that way. Maybe if I download the Morrowind patch and then try..it's worth a try..because Registy + me = bad things...so I'll wait till my brother gets home to manually do it.

Do you install the TES:III Morrowind, and then Tribunal, then Bloodmoon?
2004-11-26, 7:31 PM #9
Yes. I tried uninstalling right after TES III: M didn't install right, but it won't let me. Then I tried again after installing the 2 expansions.

I hit Crl+Alt+Del to see if anything was open and I see a bagillion 'IKernal.exe' files under process...looks like one for each attempt to uninstall.

Hmm...yeah that's the best I could wish you for, what everyone else says. Delete everything, try again. Run it with no programs running. Delete regedit keys too. Might want to reboot too.
2004-11-26, 7:37 PM #12
I rebooted, and went right to uninstall...same thing.

Could I try to delete the Morrowind folder, and then try to reinstall it from the CD?

Delete all of the files, then don't delete manually from the registry. Google RegCleaner and run that if you feel so inclined. It will remove and clean up your registry (including Morrowind's faulty keys that the files will be gone). Reinstall, voila. I love regcleaner, but maybe that's just me.

Will Reg Cleaner delete any files that I need?

Key Tips for Morrowind Players:

You can put any music you want in the music folder, and it plays whatever is in the folder in random order. I like to put Children of Bodom in there. Makes it spicy.

Morrowind Quest Walkthru (Contains Spoliors if you jump ahead your current quest, otherwise it's quite usefull to know where you're at in the game.)

Morrowind Help (Forums usefull if you have a question about how to fix a bug, or what to do in the quest/where to go.)

No.

Morrowind will completly install those keys again.

And I never heard of anyone having a key deleted that they needed, when they typed in Bethesda Software/Morrowind.

Alright, that was simple, but when I try to install now...

That looks like a key to me. I'm not sure, I'm not a tech guy.

Someone tell Flex that he probally has a program running in the background...or that he is playing BF on the wrong resolution.

Sorry man, thought that would do it. I had a ***** of a time installing Morrowind myself. Honestly my first CD was bad and I had to send it back in to get the correct one. They were great about it though and helped me. It was a problem with the second CD, I don't remember the specifics. I suggest something I think I remember hearing, it can't hurt. Copy the cd to your hard drive then try to install it. Make you you completely get rid of the previous Morrowind directory.

Oh nevermind then, cool. If you get into the game holler. I never really did. I knew I should have bought Tribunal today when I saw it but I still haven't beat BG2, a full season in RBR, finished Doom 3, played Myth or BFV online much, not to mention NFSPU, Warcraft 3 I haven't finish singleplayer or tried many of the mods. UT4k....Lomac...FB...god. Too many games too little time.

Just taking a random guess here... Does your username have administrative privelages? If not, that might be the problem (I used to have similar issues installing games on non-admin usernames)
Moo.

I guess my thread aint cool enough! :(
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Let's just say that I'm one of those dumb people that hold grudges forever and ever and never live a happy life. (I'm a big baby)

It's great.

Glad you could get your game to work.

Lol I did that. the original music got boring very fast considering how much it gets repeated. I have all the combat music as At the Gates and all the explore as Led Zepplin. Then Just to be funny I Replaced the start up and the death ones with "England 5 Germany 1". So Everytime I get killed I hear a bunch of british soccer holigans. ;)
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.
