I've pretty much decided to go with the 20G iPod, mainly because I can't resist the free engraving
what I want to know from people who own them is whether I'll need to buy anything extra to go with the player, so I can figure it into the price when I tell my mum.

Spork, you mentioned that after 10G other players are better, and I think I noticed a 40G iRiver for about £20 more than the 20G iPod, so if it is better, then that would obviously the one to go with. Can I get some more details?

Well basaically, the other models come with more features. Buy an iPod you'll get an iPod, headphones, and a recharger, that's it. Buy another brand and you're likely to get the mp3 player, headphones, recharger, remote on the headphones cable, FM radio, voice recorder, colour display, longer battery life, etc etc.

The iPod sells because it is an iPod, and this is enough for some people. The other brands come more feature-packed for compartively the same price.

Ok thanks. That's kinda what I thought. Much as I'd like to spend £200 on a fashion statement, I guess going with an iRiver or something makes more sense!

Creative makes the best MP3 Players. This is their smallest one, 5gb, and the smallest as in compact.

iagree with this entirely. i got an MP3 CD player for $35, which, technically, can hold 700MB x however many disks you want to make. And, you can play normal Audio CDs if you buy them. Sure, its bigger, but over all i find it a heck of a lot better, and extreamly cheaper.

I'm really not interested in a CD combo. I just can't see the point, considering all my CDs are on my comp now anyway. Plus they're huge.

I passed an Apple store earlier, and saw all these people queueing up to get iPods, so yeah, I'll not join them!!

But I am somewhat inclined to agree with Detty's assessment of the iRiver...

I have a creative jukebox 3 and have no problems with it. The Jukebox Zen's are quite small and not as ugly as the iRivers

The iPod photo is a good option now too. It has the longest battery life of all the iPod models, it has a color screen so you can view stuff like album art, and photo carying and viewing capabilities. I know the iPod doesn't come with loads of gizmos, but all I need is the iPod, the charger and the headphones. I keep it in an old sunglasses bag to keep it from getting scratched in my pocket - and it basically just lives either on my desk, or in my back pocket plugged into my head! :p
