I will never give up the tradition of going and getting my own tree.
I live in Maine, so it's not really hard to come across a tree..anyone in places like this have no excuse whatsoever to have a fake tree. It's what christmas is about! It's like having a fake turkey you can't eat for thanksgiving.  lol
Or something..

After reading this thread I've come to this conclusion
Fake tree people are lazy.

Oh my, I just wasted a whole minute, 60 seconds, to go get some water, and give this tree some much needed high quality H20!

Uh oh, some pine needles droped (I've never had a tree that droped them..*shrugs*), I wasted a whole nother minute cleaning them up. Gosh darnit, now I won't be able to slug around and do nothing for that stressfull minute I just wasted.

Correct me if theres any other reasons..

Price? Unless you're really struggling for money it shouldn't be too bad to drop 60ish bucks for a tree.

Convience? Read: Laziness. They are not that much work at all.

You forgot getting it into/out of the house, and making it stand up in those godforsaken little stands. All very traditional activities :D

Laziness? No, not at all. That's kind of a stupid conclusion to make (I'm sorry to say, but it is kind of insulting)...

I have a fake tree... My mom and dad got it when they were in the service and lived in Japan, and they took it back to the states when we came... It's just something we've always had, and we'll keep it. It's pretty small, and can't hold many ornaments, but we keep it despite the fact that we could easily afford a real tree... Laziness plays no part in it. My mom doesn't work, she would have no trouble watering it...

I'm not saying it's better than a real tree, but... don't assume too much.

Ok you already had one.. Fine. But I didn't mean it like that.

If you have neither, and the option is open for a fake or real one... Why would people go with the fake one?

I'm all about convience. I am lazy, and I want things done in the most timely and effecient matter.

But this is Tradition. The invconvience becomes a time to get your family together, go out and hunt for the best tree. Bring it home, go through the pain of setting it up in the stand, then standing back and looking at it, enjoying the overwhelming scent of the tree now filling the room.

All you gotta do with a fake tree is set it up in two seconds then decorate it.
What's the fun in that?

And this relates to the actual meaning of Christmas how? To me, it seems that purchasing a real tree every year is simply buying into the consumerism that's over-growing Christams more and more every year.

Isn't the decorating the tree the fun part? Even if it also fails to have a great deal of relevance, it's enjoyable, and not so much an excercise of consumerism; at my home, 2-5 hours are spent placing ornaments on the tree, and all of them were collected over the many, many, years; we have so many now, I think it's been at least 5 years since we got some, and all of them are completely unique.

Real is the only way to go. There's just some special- aura, if you will, that goes along with a real tree. They aren't too much work, and, if you buy one still rooted, you can plant it in your yard afterward. I could see a fake tree for an apartment, though.

I prefer fake because of these reasons:

1) You can keep using it for each year
2) No need to spend money on something you'll just dump on the side of the street a month later
3) No funky smell
4) No problem getting it in the house because it snaps together like a outdoor table umbrella
5) No stinking pine needles to worry about
6) If your pet knocks it down, no mess to clean up other than ornaments being scattered
