Football Thread: Brett Favre/Players to Watch

I've been watching ESPN this afternoon for a few hours, and one of the big stories has been Brett favre's impending 200th start tonight. That's insane to think about, 219 games(including playoffs I believe) in the most physical sport in America. And not only that, he is a Quarterback, the guys that usually take some of the most vicious hits. Here in WI, we are so used to his incredible accomplishments we almost think nothing of them. We expect Favre to be himself every week, and throw 25+ TD's every year. We expect him to get up after every hit. It's going to be a very, very sad day when he finally hangs em up. He's definitely my favorite player of all time, and remains so. While I like to watch Vick, or McNabb, or guys like Ray Lewis or Tomlinson, there is no one I would rather watch than Favre. So if you desire, thoughts on Brett Favre, or who are your favorite players in the NFl to watch.

I remember people predicting when he is going to "break-down" in his career.

I LOVE watching Donvon Mcnabb and Terrel Owens playing together. They just seem so insink with each other. I've been an Eagles fan for about 4 years now, And i think this year they can make it to the super bowl. BUT I think Bret Farve is the best QB in the NFL today.

I seriously hope the Packers win tonight, because they're going to lose so bad to Philly next week. Here's hoping. :o

10-1! As much as an Eagles fan I am too, I don't want to start saying stuff like being in the superbowl considering the last three years...

As for Brett Favre, he's still a pretty good quarterback although I'll have to agree that he's no Peyton Manning (maybe in his prime).

*cough*hockey*cough* :p

It really is impressive because quarterbacks tend to get banged up, lots of nogging injuries that add up as time goes on. I'd be more impressed if a running back could start that many games in a row though. They get hit a lot more than a QB over the course of the game. No taking anyhting away from Farve. He's probably one of the grittiest players I've ever seen play. He can carry a team by himself at times.

Players to watch:

Peyton Manning - 41 TD passes through 11 games, 15 in his last three games. He's on pace to destroy Dan Marino's single season record of 48 TD passes. He's is one of the, if not the, smartest football players ever. He reads defenses so well that they might as well not even step on the field. He has three recievers to throw to and they all can't be double teamed.

Ben Roethlesberger - Rookie QB for the Steelers has taken the Steeler offense and run with it. He led his team to wins over the then undefeated Patriots and Eagles. The win over the Eagles was one sided. Very impressive to watch him play becaue he doesn't have any of that rookie anxiety that most new QBs have.

Drew Brees - San Diego QB has helped turn the team around. They are on top of their division because he's come out of nowhere to lead the San Diego offense.

Mike. Vick.

How many QB are fatser then half the defensive backs in the league? How many QB's can through the ball 60 somewhat yards with the flick of their wrist? Hey, he may not put up 400 yard passing..but when he throws for 200 and also rushes for 75 with a 7-9 YPC, you are messing with a beast. Did anyone see him in the pocket against the Saints? That pass the Alge Crumpler? Any old QB would have been sacked. Vick jukes inside, twist around and throws a dart down the field, of HIS BACK foot. The thing was pure beauty. Plus they also have this play for him were he fakes the bootleg to his left (dominate side), and he just flips the other way for a 10 yard carry. It is sick.

Ray. Lewis.

When the Raven's play on TV. I watch everyone of their defensive series. Then when the go on offense i change the channel. The dude is sick..the whole defense is sick.

He will be remembered like Dan, cause he wont win the big one. Not untill their Defense can step up. sure in the regular season, it works fine to outscore your opponents before then have a shot, but what happens when the play Bliztburg?

Tell that to the Chiefs...

Anyway... cant stand favre. Packer fans get their QB to start for 200+ games (12 freakin years!), Bear fans get their QB for 3 games (2 freakin weeks) before he tears his ACL without being touched on the Minnesota sissy turf, and he's gone for the year.. it aint fair. This causes a huge season slide where the only wins come from perfect defense and big plays from the special teams (which wont work every game and can only get you so far). I dont wanna hear one more word about the favre streak unless its in the same sentence as "has come to an end."

**** yeah. Heads were about to be lobbed off about picking up this guy. Then he improves his performance like none other. Along with Brees, our o-line has improved. LaDainian Tomlinson is having a good year as our RB. Our wideouts are making good catches. Antonio Gates has stepped up. Our d-line is one to contend.

I tell you, the entire San Diego Chargers is one to watch for the season. We play our rival, Denver, at home. That will be a good game. San Diego has always been hit or miss with Denver. We play them @ home though.

That was in response to the "most physical sport" comment.. ;)

Besides, there's still hockey going on even of it isn't the NHL.
