Yeah, so for the Canadians/Québecois here:

There's been talk about no longer refering to Québec City as the "national capital" but now as the "political capital."

This hurts my Québecois pride. :(

Quote:
From dictionary.com
Nation:
A people who share common customs, origins, history, and frequently language; a nationality: “Historically the Ukrainians are an ancient nation which has persisted and survived through terrible calamity” (Robert Conquest).

The Québecois culture is unique and very different from the other Canadian provinces. I don't see why we shouldn't call Québec City our national capital.

Discuss. :(

Des nom ca veut rien dire. Y peuvent l'appeller ce qu'ils veulent, ca restera toujours la meme ville, avec la meme histoire, la meme culture, et le meme peuple.

So is every other provinces culture, get over yourself.

I don't see what the argument is, what's the difference between a political and national capital?

Tiny differences, but essentially, it's the same culture.

who's the language police now :p

The language is very important to the culture. I guess you'd have to live here to understand it. You know, it's kinda like how american culture revolves around television and entertainment. How would americans feel if they tuned in to watch monday night football and instead there was a game of cricket on? :p

Je suis distendu

(My french may be out, but never mind)

I just ate a fat steak at a restaurant, and me and a mate, Marc, decided to split another strak for dessert. So I had two and a half meals, THEN I still had a beastly pudding.

No room in my belly for any more beer!! NOOOO!

I've noted the most sane, intelligent, and kind Canadians on this board are Quebec(ian?). For the most part.

In fact, some of the other Canadians...well let's just leave it at they fill the stereotypes. Most of you should know who I'm talking about.

It's just a name, but my point was that Québec is a nation, not in the "country" sense, but in the cultural sense, and as such we should be able to keep Québec City baptised as our national capital.

Every other province has it's own culture, but between Saskatchewan and Manitoba for exemple, there is no shocking difference like between Québec and every other province. I wasn't proclaiming that Québec is the best province or anything like that, but let's just say you fit in well with the other Canadians that Yoshi was talking about.

Wow, I wish your stupid province would separate already, there are undoubtedly tons of nice people in Quebec, but I am so sick and tired of hearing the stupid french nationalists go on and on about bull**** no one gives a damn about. Do you see Newfoundland making stupid laws about their language? (And if you've been to Newfoundland you know that whatever they speak it sure isn't English) No you do not. Why? I don't know, but they just take care of business like everyone else in the country except Quebec which wants special privleges out the arse.
2004-11-30, 4:42 PM #26
Je ne savais pas que le Québec est considéré une nation. La ville de Québec reste quand même la capitale provinciale, je ne comprends pas la problème :confused :

I'm not a separatist, I just believe in keeping our culture alive. I know how they speak in Newfoundland, ever been on the greater north shore of Québec? They speak the same way, not all of Québec is pure Francophone.

Stupid laws? They keep our language in use. With business being conducted in English everywhere, something had to be done to keep the French language in use.

Now go post elsewhere if you have nothing nice to post. It's easy to call another province stupid when we know nothing about it.

Je considère la culture Québécois ma culture – une partie du culture canadien. Même si je n’habite pas à Québec, la langue, la poutine, l’hockey et la bière sont tous sacrées ;) La culture canadienne est très diverse, et elle comprend la subculture Québécois.
