Thats why you would have carpenters sillly... and as long as the ship is big, it'll take more then 2 holes to sink her fast enough. The only thing I don't see happening is anyone playing as the carpenters pumping out the water and patching up the whole (especially when theres a huge battle going and your stuck below inside a leaky ship). Would be a cool moment to be fixing a ship with a buddy and then he leaves for health or something and a cannon ball rips right through the hull and kills him.
I don't know too much about DOD:Source right now. The DOD forums are full twits that want to keep DOD exactly the same over source. DOD had good beginings but now instead of historical accuracy its gone the way side of stat balance (for instance all the smgs do the same amount of damage and have the same recoil... except the greasegun). Notice i said Stat balance where both sides have the exact same stats on their equipment. To me thats just lazy when balance could be done and maintain a good historical feel. Also theres talk of no vehicles and the same tight maps. I'm sorry but with games like BF:1942:Forgotten Hope, COD:UO or even UT:2004 Red Orchestra, DOD has to start addapting and giving people that usually play WWII games, what they want and thats to experience WWII virtually. DOD started it all and now its getting to mainstream and commercial and that usually means less inovation (has CS evolved much? no same weapons and basically the same gameplay... even in source not much new is added). I guess this is ok with DOD being fun for non-WWII freaks like me but it's just sad considering what the source engine can pull off.
Don't mind me, as a history major i get all pissy about mods and such that cop out and give both sides the same advatages and disadvantages instead of having the player or his team take advantage of certain strengths. Now Im all for fun gameplay but I don't want to play a WWII game where both sides are the same... i might as well play a futuristic game or fantasy game... i play a WWII game cause i expect it to portray the feel of WWII.
