from w. in halifax today. it actually made me tear up while driving home and listening to the cbc.
hearing him say thanks, i know he meant it. not because he's supposed to mean it. you could hear he really meant it.
please read the full story. it's not long.

No pleasing some people, it seems.
the idiot is the person who follows the idiot and your not following me your insulting me your following the path of a idiot so that makes you the idiot - LC Tusken

I half agree with Shintock, this really should have come sooner, but I bet it brings a good feeling into the hearts of those who did what they could, and asked nothing in return. Makes me proud to be Canadian.
2004-12-01, 5:11 PM #5
Better late than never. I'm not even Canadian, and this ups him a notch in my book

Yeah, it's great for all the people that put their efforts together to help back in 2001, and it's a nice gesture, but I just think that it's way too late for that. I mean, he canceled his first scheduled trip to Canada and pouted because Paul Martin didn't want to play Green Army Men with him.
2004-12-01, 7:24 PM #7
just like people are generally good and capable of doing stupid things, people who are generally stupid are capable of doing good things. he meant that thank you, and yes it makes me proud to be canadian too. but i dont think him saying thank you and asking for nothing in return (as one of you said up there) is true. he brought up the missile thing, when it wasnt even in the list of topics to discuss in hopes of catching mr. martin off guard. id ont appreciate that.

You know, as much as I hate Bush, you guys that insult him at every chance possible really don't help the case of the Democrats. I mean he's a smart guy--maybe not the smartest, but still smart. Give him some credit at least...

You do realize we are allies right?
2004-12-01, 7:29 PM #10
Yoshi, since when do you support Bush? :p

Wolvie - the other parties are against the missile shield, it's not going to happen. And if it does, I'm only two hours away from Ottawa and thus only two hours from taking a **** on Paul Martin's lawn, if the need should arise.

MW - I didn't bash the States, just Bush. :p

it's funny and maybe coincidental that all those people ended up in the maritimes. if anyone knows a maritimer they know that they are the most hospitable and welcoming people in north america (imho). i guess those were all flight diverted from europe.

that thanks had nothing to do with any policy or agenda.
i think bush is a dick (and his admin. (i'm a semi-socialist liberal)) but i for one really appreciated his thanks and his speech.
3 years later or not. it was really nice that he did that.
2004-12-01, 7:53 PM #12
Maritimes forever!

I mostly agree with dave. I don't think I need to elaborate on how much I hate bush, so I'll spare you that, but like wolvie said, even the worst people are capable of good things, and vice versa.

The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

He doesn't, nor did he ever say he does in this thread..

Alright. Would "defending" be a better word then?
2004-12-01, 8:13 PM #16
I'm American, so I can't really see Bush's actions from you Canadians' viewpoint. Yes, I do support Bush and yes, I agree with the fact that the announcement did come late. I do believe that it was still a nice thing to do, though.

More like trying to help his party maintain some semblance of dignity.

Heh, good timing, and good intended audience :D

Well, I think it was better late than never. I didn't like Bush's aversion to Canada, and am finally glad to see him go over there and thank our friends for their support.

It's a nice gesture. Most likely a political manuever(as with most anything a politician does), but a nice gesture nonetheless.

He's surveying the land for our invasion.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Hey whatever he wants to do honestly... I'm more than willing to put the stars and stripes on a flag pole outside my house, and get fat and stupid like our southern brothers. As long as I can keep playing I'll pretty much do whatever.

What a suckup. it seems like bush is always apologizing about something, the war the terrorists, 9/11, to the british, to the canadian, to the world...
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
2004-12-02, 1:02 PM #31
... How is saying "thanks" the same thing as saying "sorry"?
Moo.

Agreed, and after that another bash to the head... Bush did nothing wrong on this trip, you can hate him all you want but it was practically flawless, except for a bunch of loud mouth protestors that messes up Halifax traiffic on the last day... nothing went wrong. If you hate him fine but don't attack him just because.

*hits MW in the face with a brick*

I liked how he said, "I thank those who salute me with five fingers." :p
