The Bible Code

Before Bands of Brothers came on yesterday, this interesting documentary was on. It was quite interesting in the way that the bible was able to predict everything through the use of hidden messages.
It works kind of like this:
My assassin shoots shockwaves at singing stormtroopers inside temples eminating magnetic pulse lying evasive.
Still there are skeptics out there who says that it's coincidental as it is prevalent in every book (like Moby Dick).

I'm a skeptic with the Bible code just as I'm a skeptic with Nostradamus.

People makeup this bull**** to put meaning into their pathetic little lives or to make money.

OR

I saw that documentary too, and how they used Moby Dick to predict WWII or something. When the guy who did this (a skeptic) told everyone he used the same methods the Bible people do, the theologists and scholars who decypher the Bible believed that the author Melville was a some sort of 19th century prophet and now revere him with the likes of Bible writers and Nostradamus.

Now you understand why I can't sleep at night.

I'm very skeptical about anything like that considering how many different times the bible has been translated. Plus, which version would you use?

I've seen a few documentaries on the subject, browsed through much of a Bible Code book at the bookstore, and read a bit about it on the internet. It's one of the more interesting hoaxes. I don't know if you could really call it that, because I think the people who are working on this truly believe in what they're doing (which is sad). There was a humorous bit from one of the skeptics on a documentary that I once saw who tried applying this method to various books...and there were some interesting results. I find John Edwards more believable, and I think he's a crook.

Coincidences happen. If you were to actually calculate the probability of finding a secret code in an entire book the chances would actually be fairly good. That suprises most people.

I saw the Bible Code thing a while back. It was interesting, and after watching it I decided that if some killer earthquake blows up half of California in the year 2005 I'll start listening to it. Until then, it's just a nice concept.
(I then spent the next for hours trying to find "All your base" using the Bible code technique.)

AFAIK, it only works in the New Testament's original language (Greek, I think). I also think the code thing is only in the book of Revelation, though I'm not for sure.

The way it works is a bit different than Cloud pointed out. Every so many letters spells out a word. For example, every 7th letter (that number's probably wrong) spells out "King of Kings and Lord of Lords". Another arrangement spells out the word "computer." I'm not sure of the relevance of the term "computer" being encoded, but whatever. The letters of the coded words or phrases are evenly spaced (same number of letters between coded letters of a word).

But of course, I'm probably wasting my time. Most who believe it's fake will never actually learn the original NT language and find out for themselves.

I'm not sure. The NT was originally written in two languages, so some parts are in Aramaic, other parts are in Greek.

Also (to clear up something from my last post), codes do exist in other parts of the NT, not just Revelation. This link answeres some questions. It's from the same site that Cloud posted.

The first serious modern Bible Codes were done by rabbis using the Hebrew texts of the Old Testament and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Of course people have been trying it in different languages for centuries, and now pretty much anything goes.

The disclaimer at the bottom tells you that the assassinations predicted by moby dick were not in fact predicted by moby dick.

So then what would you suppose is the motivation for "faking" Bible codes?

I think it's simply a matter that they believe it to be true, just like Nostradamus' "predictions."

If they can build the Kabballa (sp I know - and yes I do mean Quaballa/Caballa) into the first 4 books the bible code could exist. Personally I don't belive in it but from an occult perspective its not unfeasable.

In what way?

I think I'm going to see if there's a class I can take to learn Hebrew and find this stuff out firsthand. Maybe you should consider doing the same. It's blaintantly obvious that we're both going to find sources that aid our viewpoint. Researching for ourselves would yield much more than listening to other people talk about it.
