I've been into parkour for a couple weeks now and just thought I'd ask.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about:

And here's a short .wmv featuring some freerunners in action: http://www.ufkrew.com/videos/UFSummerPreview.wmv

I've been working on my front flips and palm spins lately, working up to a wallspin. I'd like to get a double-kong down too, those just look damn sexy.

Yeah, I've been into parkour for a while. The most fun I've found are wall-flips and parkour rolls out of long jumps. Quite exhilerating.

There needs to be way more videos of this stuff out. I'd probably be willing to purchas them. I have a couple with some insane long jumps, and some beautiful falls. I think this needs to be a far more televised thing.

See if any of your friends are into it, that's how I found out. Read the techniques on the site, post on the forums, try to attend a jam or two. Just work on stuff. Most of it's not as hard as it looks, it's a confidence thing.

And, you know, having a place nearby with lots of walls and rails helps, too.

And I can't ever get the rolls. I've only rolled on grass so far, but no matter what I do I end up rolling on my spine. I can just imagine what that'll feel like on concrete.

Traceur... Tracer... Where is Tracer?! I have not seen him post in so long.

Now that I've actually looked at the thread, this stuff looks pretty cool. Nothing I'd ever do though.

can you fight with it?

Combine it with Chinese martial arts and you get the UB4R Matrix coolnesnesnes...nes......nes...
DEFINITION OF ZERO POINT ENERGY
The amount of vibrational energy associated with matter, as the parameters defining that matter decline to zero.

i'll check em out later.......

on yet another unrelated note... does learning this stuff allow you to travel the city on foot at an increased speed or have any other use apart from exercise?

its a curious hobby, i am intrigued indeed.

btw.... post #4000 wheeee

Well, i've done this in the past, and I admit... I still do all the training exercises, so if i wanted to, I could probably jump pretty damn high by now. I've done benihammas and crap in the past, scarey but fun. And it's GREAT for the girls. i got half my friends through doing this stuff at school :p . my PE teacher wasn't too impressed. Basically you run around, do flips and stuff like the matrix. it's great fun. :)
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.

The point isn't really the tricks so much, it's for freerunning, just allows you to get around a city faster without breaking the flow by stopping, or suddenly turning. It's all about flow.

Of course, showing off is half the fun. ;)

That is so cool, reminds me of an old urban ninja video I posted and the crazy French people jumping from building to building.
2004-12-04, 9:29 AM #24
I've been into this for a while, but really just the jumping part. I can't really do flips yet.

Really, I'm interested in adding in aspects of climbing so it becomes moving up stuff gracefully instead of just down and across.

You mean like, cat climbing and stuff? That's not too hard.

btwists are a wushu techinque haha

I'm not a traceur .. actually up until this thread I didn't knwo what a traceur is :o .. but being a huge martial arts head, trick head, and bboy I'm going to bore you all with stuff on tricks, which may or may not be even relevant. But whatever =P

Trick martial arts stuff
http://www.zgstunts.com/
http://club540.com
http://trickstutorials.com

Wushu stuff
http://wushucentral.com/videos/v.php/china/2003_beijing_practice

(on a tangent, note that sport/performance wushu and tricking don't represent traditional/"practical" martial arts .. so don't get all pissy at me for slandering martial arts .. the point of stuff like this is improving physical ability and capacity, and its respectable in its own right in any sense)
