Hey all.

I would highly appreciate any help you all could give me on any videogame people who have contributed something important/cool/unique in the way of A.I.... the hard part? It can't be for an RTS (real-time strategy) or FPS (first-person shooter) genre. So... "platform" games, fighting, adventure/RPGs, simulators, sports/racing, or "classic" games (puzzle or old-school) are some of the other genres out there.

If you all don't know of any particular videogame people out there, places where I could look would be appreciated. Something past "google" please...

As always, thank you all for your time and effort :)

I'd look into people from EA sports. I don't know who they would be, but they've done a lot with AI stuff.

And yes, for any of you who may remember, this is for the same project that I talked about in this thread way back when. It doesn't have to be someone who's modded a game, though if you find one who HAS done something significant, feel free to supply it :)

Feel free to be flexible too with how you define "game" ... as long as it deals with working with A.I., I'm open to hearing it. And if you wish to contribute something with RTS or FPS too, I suppose that's fine -- it's what my other two project people are doing. I need to pick a different genre for myself.

Hideo Kojima? I guess he deals with A.I. since the Metal Gear Solid series have always strive to improve the A.I.

Black and White? It's not really RTS, it's definitely not FPS and is awesome in the AI department. Oh, and what about turn based strategy - I'm thinking Civ 2 on the hardest setting. Also commercial chess games. errr..... If I think of any more today I'll post again.

Oh, and not that I noticed it (maybe I was too young) but MDK was touted to have very decent AI.

Shiny, Bullfrog, Lionhead, Firaxis and Mucky Foot are all cutting edgy-type companies, thinking Dave Perry, Peter Molyneux (sp?), Demis Hassabis, Sid Meier (sp?) etc.

Check out Galapagos. It's a 3D platformer game from 1997 that has a free demo out! It's long too! The whole premise is that you start with a stupid mindless robot guy and you have to "teach" it to get around past dangerous obstacles and stuff. I was mildly impressed by it.

Read up on who helped code the AI for HL and HL2. Valve is great for things like that. Just email the guy and I'm sure hell be gald to help you out.
