Far Cry - ATI Tech Demo (The Project)
2004-12-05, 7:41 AM #1
ATI and Crytek have released this real-time tech demo that showcases the latest version of the Far Cry engine, while also benchmarking your Computer. Check it out! You can pause the video anytime you want, then zoom in, view the wireframe, and look around. My PC can run FarCry at highest 2xAA just fine, but this only ran at about 15-20 FPS.

Here are some screenshots I took for all of you who don't want to download this, or if your PC just can't handle it.

Your link doesn't work. I'm also not downloading software just to download a file I can find somewhere else.

Besides the lip syncing, that was ****ing amazing.

The lip synching is dead on. The only reason is would seem off is if your PC wasn't able to render the scenes fast enough to keep up with the sound, which unless you have a 6800 or X800, I'm sure will be the case.

Looks pretty. Dare I say it might even look better than HL2?

It easily looks better than HL2. I think the reason the shots look a bit "off" is because they seem to be going for a cartooney look.

Source has just been born. Theres no reason they can't update it over time to keep up. Especially when they have steam to update the game.

I don't see why a game can't grow like a living thing to adapt and survive, if not thrive over time.

Anyways, back on topic.

This looks great, looks like a really, really nice engine. Can't wait to see it in action in a game.

i guess the HDR is only for the people with the top of the line stuff

(and i don't want any nvidiots going "of course because it's a 6*00 only feature" because THAT is for far cry this demo's HDR has been confirmed to work on x800)

Those shots look nice, but I don't think my current R7000 will run the demo... That'll have tto wait, I guess.

And anyway, those screenies are nothing compared to The Edler Scrolls IV: Oblivion!

Well, to me, it's just the same. In my current condition, I do not have the capability to play either of them; I can only look at the screenies. However, the same could be said for comparing Jedi Knight to Half-Life2 were I using a 486 computer...

So does STALKER. HL2 doesn't look that great anymore, especially being a year late. I haven't seen that video yet, but HL2 has the best characters and lip syncing I've ever seen. Not to mention the incredible array of facial expressions.

This looks... amazing, the old far cry engine was quite cool too.

That demo looks awesome, the fact that it ran at about 4 FPS at the lowest settings on my comp just meant that I got to enjoy it more and mess around w/ the wireframe stuff.

It has, and already the lighitng engine is out of date.

The FarCry engine IS impressive, I'd say moreso than source, and pending on your gametype, moreso than Doom 3's. UT2 engine > * though ;)

Yeah, don't even get me started. The faces are awesome, the models are nice, and the water is impressive...but their texture choice is horrible
