I'm not too good at video games. Especially first person shooters. I tend to just play them for fun. The only time I'm good at first person shooters is when they're on consoles, but we're talking about real video-games, aren't we? Well, I've found a first person shooter that I'm actually quite good at:

Day of Defeat. I bought HL2, and with it, got HL and friends, games I haven't played before. Last weekend, I was checking out the mods that came with steam, and I played DOD a couple times. Now this weekend, I'm at the top of my game. I am always first in no matter what map, even maps I've never played before. And I'm usually not first for my kills: That's usually why I suck at FPSs, because they're related to kills, and not strategy. With DOD, I can plot my actions and whatnot, so that I kill people along the way. I tend to be a machine gunner, and lay down the defensive fire so my soldiers can rush in, then when the foot soldiers are in, I go deeper into enemy teritory to hold down another place and obtain the flag. In doing this, I die far more than anyone else, but tend to get more flags, and kill more people than anyone on any other server. I'm actually 460th on a server with 1900 people on it from playing for the past 2 weeks. I'd say, from only 2 weekends worth of DoD, I'm kicking some major ***.

Tell about your skills in a single game, and why you've got skill in that game as opposed to other games.

I'll have to agree with you about DoD. I've figured out what my best weapons and strategies are, and with a bit of Ramboness I'm hard to stop. I may not always have the most kills, but the enemy knows I'm there.

sorry to dissapoint you but a 1:1 kill:death ratio isn't very good ;)

If you have fewer kills than deaths, that means that you need to do better. =)

But after two weeks, pretty nice.

Surely though, you don't want the enemy to know you're there, only that you've been there.

No FF. I think you get 1 point every 2 you kill. Death Ratio to Kill ratio doesn't matter at all to me.

trying to stick to the topic of this post, I'm awesome at DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) because I have the athleticism needed to be good. In fact, there's only a few songs I have yet to pass.
I need a signature SO amazing, and SO funny, that when you read it, you say, "Hey, that's pretty funny."

??? Why not? It's the most effective measure of your combat skill. Although in DoD points is more important for your team.

Also, 460th is not very good... at all. After a few maps on a CS server, I'm almost always in the top 50, and if I stick around and play for a few weeks, depending on the skill level of the server, I'll be approaching first place or at least somewhere in the /top 15.

Keep practicing :D
[EDIT: On a side note, I suck at ALL console games except Soul Calibur 2]

Am I the only one who finds it somewhat humorous that a guy named Connection Problem does well at online games?

HL2DM is the most god-awful MP experience ever.

It dosen't seem that interesting to me. I mean, I can easily simulate the gravgun experiance with the painkiller. Cept I'd be tossing bodies at people. Not saws. Sometimes boxes. But yeah, the gravity gun can't grind things up at the same time.

Back when I played AA way too much, I'd go a good 10-15 rounds without being killed while getting 3-5 kills per game as a rifleman or AR (no sniper or M203). More recently I had a DC game with 41 kills to 2 deaths but that was hiogher than I usually average.

Yeah, AA was my best game too. It just clicked with me.

You get one point for every Flag Capture you make/goal you complete in DoD. Kills and Deaths do not affect your score.

Ah. Anyway, I personally think I'm doing fantastic at DoD. I'm addicted to it, and all the sounds and such. It's very submersive.

Anyway, HL2DM is pretty crappy. There's no skill involved. You just run around tossing crap at people until someone dies. You could argue that timing and aiming at people's feet is strategy, but I think it's just bad gameplay.

Not in DoD you don't. Points=captured flags.

my best skills in an FPS has to be in Halo pc. I know I'm not the best out there, but after literally many months of play at my friend's house, I'm finally starting to kick ***. I feel I'm starting to do better, getting at least a 6 kills to 1 death ratio. Once i believe i got a 12:1 ratio which simply amazed the people i was playing with. I generally get the most fun out of Halo. I've tried other games like CS and HL2 but Halo gives me kicks :p

That's just my personal feelings about my favourite game, and the one i'm fairly good at.

Kill:death ratio is a good measure of skill, however if you get 100 kills and 200 deaths, that's also saying you managed to get that many kills while dying so much. If you have 100 kills and the next in line has only 20, and you have 200 deaths...that's pretty impressive. It's hard to kill when you are so busy being killed.

OK, I can agree with that. [emon] Personally, I think I found a game where deaths and kills are irelivent. Capturing flags is not. I'm far better at strategy than I am at killing or avoiding death.

Yes, we've already been over the fact that you, Freelancer, both dislike, and suck at, half life 2.

I love HL2DM. It feels much like half life..but much better, too. I really can't wait for Sven Co-op and DoD, though. Mmmm.

I'm good at DoD, usually getting close to a 2:1 ratio, but I've been playing CS a lot lately, and I really suck at it.

Right, BobTheMasher. My opinion has changed a little since that one post though. I like HL2SP, but the MP is not that great in my opinion.

Ah, good you're coming to the light. ;)

Really though, I don't know why HL2DM is good...maybe it's because it's so despecialized...it feels very classic. Must be the nostalgia talking. :)
