Doom 3 is considered awesome... Why?

Unlimited funds doesn't mean you still aren't looking to turn a rather large profit.

I downloaded the demo and enjoyed it for the most part. I could see how an entire game like that would get exhausting but the demo was fun.

So, if I can run Doom3 can I run HL2?

According to the brief introduction you're given, the UAC has unlimited funds and is all powerful. Now, if they're all powerful, and have unlimited funds, why the hell can't they afford to put in some battery powered flood lights for when the power goes down?
Like any large organization, they're probably slow at getting around to everything.

So I finished the demo.

All in all, it was decent. I wouldn't buy the game. If it was given to me, it'd probably sit around somewhere for awhile before I bothered to install it, and even then I wouldn't play it often.

It was all quite predictable, and thus boring to me. Having a demon appear from nowhere and jump at you is only slightly scary so many times. In my case, that number was about 5. I wish I could crank the graphics a bit more so I could form a better opinion on that. I might try it later. I don't need it to be playable, I just want to see what it looks like with things cranked up. The shadows formed by your flashlight for the most part looked amazingly bad and unrealistic to me. They just didn't seem to be cast right. They always looked like they were sitting right behind the object. Glass was cool. In general, I felt that the bumpmapping was heavily overused. One thing that annoyed me, and that I only noticed after playing some more Halo 2, was that when you push moveable objects, or knock them over, there isn't any sound from them at all. Halo did that, and I'm used to hearing it, which is why I noticed. I'm curious as to why the flashlight seemed to have the power of a shotgun when you hit someone. As for the environment... It was repetative to me and I kept feeling overwhelmed by all the details. Details are good. And they had great details. The information stations, the numerous computer terminals, singage and labels, etc. But it was difficult for me to know what I was supposed to be paying attention to. All to often I found myself walking over to a computer screen thinking there was something I needed there, or that I could interact with it. Doors were another problem. Most of the doors had the LCD security screen things on them. But time and again I'd end up walking over to a wall that had a similar LCD type screen on it and carried a texture that I interpreted as a door and finding out only after I got there that it wasn't a door.

I should probably break all of that into paragraphs, but I don't want to. It's also probably a lot of silly nit-picking that can be done with ANY game. But having played part of it now, I think I have enough to form a better opinion. It's good qualities I mentioned early on in my first post I believe. The rest I found to me 'meh' and boring. On a scale of 1 to 10, it gets about a 4ish from me.

I think Halo and Halo 2 had better guns. Hell. Lots of games have better guns. The pistol was sexy though. Reminded me of Deckard's blaster from BladeRunner.

But Halo nor Halo 2 had a chaingun, a BFG, or a soulcube. When it comes to interesting, new weapons, Halo 1 & 2 fall flat (excepting for the energy sword).

BTW, what's new in Halo 2 besides a new SP, duel weilding and a few new weapons?

^^ A new crappy soundtrack and movie cliches

I liked doom 3. I played the hell out of it. About the third lab section, It wasn't scary anymore most of the time, but then it became this intense run-n-gun the hell out of everything that moves. Can't tell you how many times I was just sprinting down halls killing stuff, and I'd shoot a moving light or shadow.

I liked it, for what it is

When I first walked into a room where people were playing it, the thing that i noticed most was sound. There's better sound effects, and they happen more... They're louder, whatever, crisper, I dunno. But it's a little bit more action packed. Like basically... when you're being shot, it's not like *doop doop* "uh oh, better run, shield drainage", it's like "kakakakaka boom kakak ah **** wtf hailp me"...

but then, once you've started playing for a while that effect fades and getting shot isn't any diff.

Halo 2 is an amazing game. Worthy of being called a sequel in my opinion, yet it still has it's problems. Every game does. Even the first one had problems. One thing that should be noted though, is that if you're expecting a totally different game when you play Halo 2 the first time, you're in for a surprise.

That said, this thread is about Doom 3, not Halo 2. Would it be possible to keep it that way? I'm not trying to be rude... I'm just saying...

I haven't PLAYED Halo 2, but I was at a friend's house working on a computer and his sister and her boyfriend were playing it next to me, and it seemed fun, but the graphics were not impressive at all... seemed pretty similar to the first one. Maybe it was the massive size of the TV (60")?

If they were playing splitscreen, that might be part of the reason. Splitscreen in Halo 2 has a tendency to make a lot of the environment look very grungy.
