The virgin mary grilled cheese sandwich...
2004-12-06, 10:20 PM #1
Sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars to GoldenPalace.com...Such idiots. I burst out laughing when I saw what they were doing with it too...a pop up came up saying "Put your face on the virgin mary grilled cheese sandwich! Holy Hilarity!" and then it had a picture of the sandwich with a very very badly edited picture of some guy on it. I mean seriously, they have some marketing genius's over at GoldenPalace

It makes me want to spend all my money at Golden Palace. All of it.

You're talking about it. Looks like their marketing plan worked.

Talking about it is one thing...Giving them business is another! Most people will probably be offended by this...I know I would if I were religious. Just because people are talking about it doesn't mean it's good publicity...In fact, I know nothing about GoldenPalace.com except that they bought this sandwich as well as a ghost on Ebay.

Just because there is a catch-phrase doesn't mean it's true at all. I mean, of course there is bad publicity! If a restaurant is shown on the news for being a stinking dirty health hazard, then thats bad publicity! If the CEO of a company kills a man, thats bad publicity! I could go on forever...

Hearing that rumour about the rat head being found in McDonald's food made me so hungry for McD's it's not even funny.

wasn't that just an urban legend?

Either way, it was "bad publicity" that made me want their product.

Not sure, but I can confirm that some lady got a deep fried chicken head as one of her chicken nuggets. Not sure about the rat head tho.

Rational people would not crave McD's because of a rat head found in their product. Most people would be revolted. Infact, I think you are just using a stupid example to try and prove your point.

Things like this create more stir, which means more people are talking about it, which means more people will be going to Golden Palace. You're not one of them and that's fine, but they are using shock marketing, which is more effective than you might think.

I dunno, having your name in the news is generally a good thing, to justify my example as not being stupid, the thought process could be:

-> I heard McD's has rat's heads in it
-> McD's is a huge company with health standards
-> They wouldn't let that happen, and it won't happen again
-> I'm hungry, gonna go get me some clean, healthy ratburgers.

Hmm... Does this mean McDonald's food is actually good enough that rats would touch it, or does this mean a rat died instantly after eating the food, and thus got mixed into it?

$65,000, actually.

You ever heard of a casino going bankrupt? They're a licence to print money. Now imagine a casino with virtually no overheads such as property or staff... All they'd need is a little publicity.
