Info on Dihydrous Monoxide can be found here: Stop Dihydrogen Monoxide!

VOTE BEFORE READING THE REST OF THIS THREAD

I jsut wanted to see how many people here would support a ban on this odorless, colorless, desrutive chemical that has caused many problems for humanity.

You may discuss this, but please vote first, or not at all. i want a serious tally.

I will never support a ban on dihydrous monoxide. The whole idea seems ludicrous.
Rock is dead - but I believe in necrophilia.
2004-12-08, 7:42 PM #3
i think that it shouldn't be banned, because then all the addicts out there wouldn't be able to get their fix, and that might have deadly results, such as the world collapsing.

That's pointless, the article even tells itself how many household uses it has. How on Earth can a normal human being go around and inhale this chemical? That's the only way you can die from it and well...who does that?

i support it. give it up you bastards. give it up!!!!

I think it's about time we had dihydrous monoxide addicts off the streets, and in prison where they belong. I vote yes.
2004-12-08, 8:04 PM #7
But... how are we supposed to clean the prisoners' stalls without proper cleaning solutions? ;)

Seriously though, yeah, it has a lot of useful purposes.
Banning DHM would be like banning hand soap and toothpaste (for lack of a better example, I will stick with these)
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Unfortunately, probably most people here have seen this before. It would be interesting to know who it fooled the first time though...

yeah, it is a tad unfortunate, kyle, thougha ratio of 5 to 12 as it is now is still sorta bad.

Without reading the rest of the thread...don't you mean dihydrogen monoxide? Because this has been done before. It's not exactly a new trick.

*votes yes anyway*

He does, and I support the ban.

Well it's pretty frappin obvious anyone with a grade 8 education should get it.

you'd be rather badly suprised by the amount of people who don't get it. out of my entire AP Chem class, it took them about 5 minutes before someone who i didn't help figured it out. People don't think, most of the time. I figured people in here would be smarter, but still. And thanks, MB, i was looking for that site but couldn't find it, so i had to settle for the half-assed one.

Old joke. Wasn't funny then.

PS, and I didn't fall for it either.

Interesting prank, Let me explain.

Di-hydrogen = H2

Mon- (oxide = oxygen) = O1 or just O

Therefore H2 + O = H2O

And that stands for...

WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:
Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
That's called drowning

Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
You have to go to the bathroom really badly

DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
If it weren't in acid rain, the acid rain would be MUCH more potent.

Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Called a steam burn

Contributes to soil erosion.
Without DHMO, nothing could grow on it anyway!

Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
That's called rust

Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
Only stupid people drop their hair-dryers in the bathtub.

Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Because the brakes are not water-proof

Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
Found everywhere else in the body

Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere.
Without DHMO in the atmosphere, we wouldn't be able to survive, so there would be no one to be killed by cyclones!
Made you look

Well if I wanted to get technical and be a jerk, I would point out that the 2 should be in subtext because it means something completely different if it's not.... but I don't feel like being a jerk..

Chemistry teaches us that molecules with "-ous" tend to have one less oxygen present than they regular forms. So, besides combining two different nomenclature systems, we get H2
