Was freaking awesome!!!!!!

Then again I LOVE medieval times. I LOVE medieval fighting, clothes, weaponry, everything. So, that may have something to do with me liking the film so much. All my other friends, even my family didn't like it that much...so, I don’t know, you may or may not like it. Anyone seen it?

I loved the scene when the two 'piles' of flaming arrows crossed each other.

Volley. Not pile, volley.

Also: No, it was not good. In fact it was laughably terrible.

I read the book a few years ago, really liked it, so I was anticipating this movie. Then I heard the buzz surrounding it, and none of it was good. So, I wasn't dissapointed when I saw it. I knew it was bad going in.

It was, without a doubt, the worst movie I've ever seen in a movie theater. Every time Paul Walker talked I almost laughed, he is one of the worst actors I've ever seen.

It's like the took the general idea of the book, took out everything that was good, then added a healthy amount of suck.

The love story between Chris and Kate (I believe that was her name) was way overdone as well. The book did it a lot better, nothing really came of it until after they got back.

The technobabble they used to explain the time machine working was crap too. The book explains it with ideas that sound like it could work, but they gave up on it in the movie. Either give us a good explination, or just skip giving it at all and say, "here's a time machine, let's go save an old guy!"

That said, I did like the flaming arrows and the large amount of trebuchets. The presence of trebuchets makes any movie better.

A good canidate when you wish to play Mystery Science Theater. Not good for much else, though.

I think that in all movies/shows that want to avoid bad technobabble should adhere to the following script, changing names and places to protect the stupid.

PersonA: How does this work?
PersonB: Well, a while ago a scientist made a big discovery... <scene fades to black>
<New scene with different people comes on>

On a good day Paul Walker is a lesser man's Keanu Reeves...and he doesn't have many good days. Poor *******.

It wasnt as bad as I expected it to be, but it was still pretty bad. They completely skipped over the scientific explanation of how their time travel works, which was one of the coolest parts of the book (Especially if you've had some formal training in physics, particularly the idea that light is a wave). The book also went into medieval society, technology, and fighting a lot more than the movie did.

Personally, I think that Micheal Chrichton's books are awesome, but generally dont adapt to the big screen very well. Jurassic Park was a one-time exception.

Meh, the JP book was so little like the movie I wouldn't even call it a movie adaption. They threw out all the interesting science and watered it down for the kids. Not saying it sucks, I still enjoyed it...but enjoyed the book lightyears more.

Okay, I didn't read the book. I am just saying this from a movie point of view. I thought some of the actors were very good, others wish they could act. Thatt was the problem with the movie "The Core" horrible acting. I liked both films, even though they could have better acting. I just loved the medieval stuff too much ^_^.

[yes, volley, thats the word I was looking for!]

I don't know why you all think it's such a horrible horrible film. It was entertaining.

It was ok... I dont regret having watched it, the movie did entertain me for the most part. The book was just so much better though.

And The Core had a lot more problems than just the acting... "HACK THE PLANET!!!!"

It sucked. I loved the book, but everything I loved the book for was absent from the movie. The siege was the only part of the movie worthy of anything other than scorn.

I actually think it's the opposite. After Jurassic Park, I think his writing, while still pretty good, went downhill. Read Jurassic Park and watch how it flows, then read Timeline and watch how it flows. There is one MAJOR difference. Where Jurassic Park flows like any normal book, Timeline reads almost EXACTLY like a movie script. If you're like me and you picture the action in your head, it's almost like you can tell where a change of camera angle would go, when the camera would cut to another person, when a scene would transition via a fade. It's not bad, but it's not as good as the way a book like Jurassic Park flows.

And yes, the book was VASTLY superior to the movie. SAJN, if you're interested in that stuff, go get the book and read it, you'll be more entertained. I lost all interest in the movie when I found out they'd b*****dized the plot and most all of the character relations. It's a movie I'll get when it arrives at the public library on DVD.

i read timeline then my dad read it so both of us were looking forward to the film... i convinced my brother and some friends to go see it on thanksgiving...
i couldn't stop laughing at the bad acting, the terrible screwups of the story and every other dumb thing they threw in there.

now, this laughing greatly upset my friends who continued to teasingly be angry at me about it for the next week [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
however, i promptly explained to them the movie was horrid but they should read the book...
sadly none of them read it =/
(I don't think many of them read much. one of the girls there had been trying to read Pride and Prejudice for over 5 months and had barely made 10 pages =P)

anyway, enough babbling...
the movie was lousy. dropping the technical stuff = bad.

I am in concurance with DSettahr, though apparently I'm also in the minority, thinking Sphere was really good.

Being a huge fan of the book, I personally hated the Timeline movie. My brother thought it was alright, though, and I don't think he read the book... so maybe I'm just one of those people who obsess over the books so much that I get too picky about the movie.

Sphere is by far my favorite. I also really like Jurassic Park, Congo, and The Terminal Man.

Everyone should also definately read "A Case Of Need." Chrichton wrote while he was in medical school using a pen name, so it might be a bit hard to find. It really makes you think about some of the issues surrounding abortion though.

Yeah, they eventually republished it with his name, but the copy I have only lists the pen name - Jeffery Hudson.
