Could be good, but they don't give much to go on at this point.

bah, they'll find a way to screw it up
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Flexor, they already have. "Tom Cruise".

Fixed.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I have solid faith in Spielberg, he has yet to disappoint me. While Cruise has disappointed me in his earlier works, his later works (Last Samurai, Collateral, Minority Report, et al.) have been good.

I do however, wish it were set a few decades back, even the way thr credits are placed at the end of the trailer suggest a nostalgic feel.

I wonder how much off H.G. Wells they are going to borrow. I can already tell that the time frame is so off (you figure that out in the first 10 seconds). I also wonder if they are going to do an ID4 and hardly show the aliens.

SAJN_Master, of those I've seen:

Jaws
Last Crusade
Jurassic Park
Saving Private Ryan
Minority Report
E.T.

And don't forget, he also directed such great movies as
Hook
The Lost World
Poltergeist

Am I saying Spieldburg is a bad director? Hell no. I think he is the greatest director in Hollywood. Slap his name anywhere on the film and it's guaranteed $100 million at least. Guy's a great dude and I have no thoughts that this film will fail. I'm looking forward to it now, even though I never heard of it until 30 minutes after I woke up today.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2004-12-10, 1:21 PM #12
Well.......technically didn't he not direct Poltergeist?

You only get a glimpse of an alien tenticle at the end of the book. They're in their walker machines for the entire book.

Plus you almost never saw them in the old version. I'd prefer it stay that way.

i recall right around the middle of the book, him coming out of a ruined house, looking into a craterish area, and seeing them out of their machines in the tenticles and giant headedness?

I never read the book, but this does look fairly interesting. So what is Cruise's role in the movie?
2004-12-10, 5:20 PM #17
The main character from the book. Don't remember his name or if he was even named in the book.

Should he be working on Indy 4?

Looks like it might be interesting.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

The people in the trailer are dumb. :)

Honestly, if bombs were going off about two blocks down, wouldn't you crawl into your basement? Even if they were blue and hypnotic...

OMG! Spielberg did NOT direct Poltergeist. That was directed by Tobe Hooper. It's just really annoying when people think that he did it when he didn't. Poor Tobe Hooper.

Curiosity caused them to go outside. After that... Too scared to move?

I wonder if they're going to use the floating vehical idea, the walker idea, or something else.

While the voice over was better than the standard "in a world where... one man will have to... cordially invite you to experience the magic, once again...", they still managed to ruin what was essentially taken from the book (or was it taken from the musical? I know the musical had a similar opening. I suspect it's from the book; it's been ages since I've read it) with the shocking voice over.

And why set it in the present? Why? Because the early 1900s would have just been too cool a setting, I bet. Wouldn't want to have to explain to all the idiots out there how things were a hundred years ago.

Next they'll be taking one of Shakespeare's plays and just set it in the present for no reason, without even explaining it, and just keeping the dialogue all the same!!!

They did that already. You might have heard about the atrocity that is Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio.

He sucked, the movie sucked. I had to watch it in school once. All I wanted to do while that movie was playing was DIE.

Yeah, we watched that Romeo and Juliet modern thing, I enjoyed it due to the excessive heckling and comments that made the movie so much funnier.

Who else noticed in the trailer that mars is juxtaposed with a red light?

Sweet. :)

I liked how when the dude says "Fetch me my longsword" or whatever, the guy hands him a gun that says "longsword" on it.

:D
2004-12-11, 1:41 PM #35
The guns also made sword noises in that movie. It blew:p
