I need a wave editor...

that can change the pitch of a wave (preferably by semitones) without altering the speed of the wave and without making it sound all crappy and digitized. Goldwave does a horrible job with this, so I need something else.

I use the Pacemaker plugin for Winamp. Just load your wav file and output to another wav. It's not the best, but it does a better job than Goldwave.

Ah, but I don't use WinAmp.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/Audacity

It's free and works brilliantly.

If your interested in just altering pitch, try Amazing Slow Downer. It's designed to slow down/speed up (from 20% to 200%) audio files, and it can alter pitch(-12 to +12 with .01 resolution, 1.00 being one tone). This is all very handy for transcribing pieces, and playing through jazz schemes in different keys (very very handy for me).

It can't save though, and the above features are the only valid reason to get it.

Holy Crap! Better *and* faster than Goldwave? I must be dreaming. Goldwave would've taken ages to transpose that, and sucked at doing it.

You win a catloaf!

[edit: Does something wierd to the bass, though.]

audacity is the best sound editing utility ever conceived.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

I tried audacity some time ago... And yet I'm still using Goldwave. But of course it depends on what you are doing. Goldwave has been good enough for my purposes...
