What would y'all say to a JK tournament, to see who here still has l337 saber/gun/force/what have you skills?

Possibly organized like this... a free-for-all elimination round to pick the top 32, then CTF matches with 4 vs 4, take the top 16, have 2 vs 2 gun battles, then the top 8 for one on one saber NF battles, then the final four... well, play a mod of some sort. The checkers mod maybe?

Dunno, just an idea.

Or maybe just have team battles. Pick a team of 4 or so, and have em' all go through rounds of CTF, Infiltrate, and other crap. That would be interesting too, I suppose. I'm sure picking team names would be fun.

Why? Coolmatty will more than likelly own us all. Even then, it's unlikelly that enough people will play for this to be worth any effort.

I'd play, although It'd be better if we stuck to vanilla JK especially the final round i mean using a mod in the final round is like getting Michael Schumacher to rally race, sure the game is the same but the rules are totally different. The best JK Player might suck with X mod whereas someone else might suck at vanilla jk and be good with certain mods.

But just for good sportsmanship, as when I play with kirbs, I will only play with my one hand (mouse only).

And no I ain't kidding, I do it a lot.
Fire1 = Mouse 1
Jump = Mouse 2
Fire2 = Mousewheel push
Forward = Mouse 4
Backward = Mouse 5

I use the keyboard only to switch weapons. Now note this playing method only works with NF, with FF I have to use keyboard just because I have no buttons to work with. But then again, I don't claim to play well under any conditions except NF guns.

It's fun to do though, you all should try it. To do strafing and such more difficult maneuvers, simply walk forward in the direction you want, jump, and fire in the direction you need to fire in. I call it air strafing, my friends call it showing off and being stupid Anyway, kirbs can tell ya that I ain't half bad with it, but obviously nothing beats the keyboard/mouse combo.

I'm tempted to revive some of my old clan mates, to see if CM is indeed 'that good'.

Playing on a team to see who the single best JK player is a bit unbalanced. I say this because the best player might be on a team that loses because the other members weren't so hot. Then, he/she is eliminated and someone else is dubbed "the best JK player".

If you folks do a 2v2 C@NS (Challenge at Nar Shaddaa - LLO (Large Level Open)) NF (No Force) tournament, my clan would be happy to compete. We'd also welcome a 2v2 or 3v3 Team Fusion CTF NF challenge. 4v4, as someone suggested above, would be nothing more than a lag fest, as many JKers are still on dialup (I myself am still an active JK player on a 28.8 connection). You would have to set down some ground rules for CTF, such as NSS (No Supershield), and NR (No Roofing) for it to be much fun, or you'll have people camping with the flag on roofs with the SS for hours.

I'd be willing to play in a 1v1 DM tourney as well, if you folks host one, but regardless of what you decide on, if past JK tournaments are any indication, it's simply going to turn into a hack fest, if you don't play with an AHP (Anti-Hack Patch) that is released for people to download about an hour before the tournament (giving people less time to create work-arounds). Contrary to what many of you may think, not all JK hacks are easy to spot. If you host a JK tournament without an AHP, your tournmant WILL have hackers, and you won't be able to truly prove that half of them are cheating. It will come down to neener neener, and sometimes even the best players being booted for hacking, when they were simply just the best players. The reality is that most editors aren't very good players (there are exceptions), but as hard as this is for many editors to accept, it's simply the reality of the situation. I'd just hate to see a public tournament like this turn into a hack-fest, and people even getting booted when they weren't even hacking as well. The truth is that if you open this to the public (Zoners etc), 99.9% of you won't make it past the first round, and I just hope that you won't accuse better players of cheating, just because you can't comprehend the depth of gameplay involved. I've played in enough tournaments and ladders to see this happen, and it's one of the main reasons that JK was never recognized as one of the better competitive games (blame LEC).

Despite the above, I'd like to see an intelligently planned tournament come into fruition, I just wanted to point out the reality of the situation, to see if you guys are serious enough about this to make it work.



Spider Al is a great player, but if you open this to the public, there are people who would whipe the floor with him. However, if this is going to be some sort of "you can't be in the tournament unless you've registered on the forums before a certain date" type of tournament, I'm sure he'd do quite well, especially in FF.

Alright then, we can do both Team and Single I suppose. But in any case, as for a few points:



It will be an un-announced mod, and it will show just how good the player is at adapting to something new and unfamiliar.



One quality may just be how good people are as far as working in a team. The l337est of all the l337 may not be able to win against a team that has true cohesive skills. It's just testing another ability of the person.

As far as a date, what about this Saturday evening? Next weekend is Christmas so it's gonna be a bit packed, and weekdays are always meh.

I wouldn't mind hosting the server, but we need a better way of enrolling people. Maybe also put this on the front page or something to attract more people *cough, cough*.

Seeing as how you are not hosting this, I'd like to see how you plan to do that :p

I really don't think hacking will be as much of a problem. Seeing as how:

A. Zoners aren't exactly a dime a dozen anymore
B. Most all massassians here have more morality than that.
C. I think it's just a game. Its not like there is any reward, so cheating would be stupid. This whole tourny won't even be mentioned a week after it happens.

If that was true, kirb would have kicked me out for cheating looooong before the round ended I had over double his score

And not all the zoners are exactly rock awesome stuff. There are a bunch of really damn good players here, not just myself. (Yes people, someone HAS beaten me already, quit praising me for cripes sake.)

That's never stopped people from cheating in virtually every JK tournament since 1997. People will cheat for something as small as a little recognition.



Let's take FF Oasis or BGJ for instance. If you have any of the best players from the Zone playing, they'd beat anyone here into the negatives, easily. There are very few Massassians that could compete with the likes of Spanker or Reiko (both of which I believe still play JK on occasion), or anyone even close to their skill-level. Like I said before, there are exceptions on both sides, but there's simply no way in hell that the best Massassians could compete with the best Zoners. There's really no argument there.

I would really like to see a tournament happen, but I think you guys are going to need more than a week to prepare something worthwhile. Why not plan something out nicely and do it in the new year? Hell, with all of the talented coders around here, why doesn't someone put together a Massassi ladder for JK, MotS, and any other game that is being played? I'm sure that there are people here that would be glad to admin such a ladder?

But my JK level is over 2 million! And I can go super-jedi!
