Things are starting to get crazy. We have dual-processor motherboards and now we're about to get dual-core processors.

Then we're going to dual video cards again, and now someone introduces a dual-core video card.

I can see it now, dual platform hard drives. Want RAID but don't have the capability? Just get a hard drive that has two sets of platters and two write arms and BAM.

Well, if you can't move forward, move sideways.

Wasn't that the way things were back in the old days? I remember taking apart a computer in the mid 90's... the hard drive had 5 or 6 different platters. The thing was massive.

But really, I guess this is just all preparation for quantum computing. Where each atom is a processor and a storage device.

A. Dual Processor systems have been around for a LONG, LONG time.

B. Same with video cards, just not consumer level.

C. Hard drives already have multiple platters, that's how they hold so much.

D. Having 2 drives in one drive and running raid would defeat the purpose. It would still be prone to failing, which would destroy the entire thing, leaving redundancy out as a bonus. Also, since it is only running on one cable, it would be limited by the cable speed also.

Sorry, just had to nit-pick :D

He said two sets of platters and two arms. Two hard drives sandwitched together with probably a RAID controller. Although a good idea, it wouldn't be practical. It wouldn't be much cheaper than getting two drives and a RAID controller, and two drives gives you flexibility in what you want to do with them.

Well actually they have many arms to read the many platters :P

Seriously though, you think they would've got it by now.

That's a worthy quote if ever there was one.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.
