Anyone else going to see this? I'm leaving in a bit to go see it, I'll let you know how it was. I've been waiting to see this for ages.
Think while it's still legal.

yeah i'm going out tonight to see that as well. Jim Carey is a comic genuis so I dont doubt it'll be funny.

He was saying on Oprah how in the scenes where he's mean to the children he was saying things to get them into character so h'ed look at them and in a mean voice say "i killed your dog!!" and they'd all look back and him and just burst into laughter. He goes "it's just a totally diff. generation now a days" which is true, I think comedy is darker now a days. Hence good movies like, Shaun, and Cabin Fever

Eh? Old comedies can be pretty macabre and hilarious too. See Stanley Kubrick's Lolita or Dr. Strangelove. Or also try the original black and white version of Little Shop of Horrors. Sure you might not have as much splatter, but it isn't what you see, it's what's implied that makes it worse. Your imagination does the rest.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

As much as I love Jim Carrey, this movie doesn't look too interresting to me.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

It looks very...odd.

Im going to see it tomorrow, having read the books, I want to see how it measures up.

The movie was amazing. I had really high expectations for this movie, and I got something about 10x better. Even if you aren't a Jim Carrey fan go see this. It isn't like any Carrey movie. He isn't as crazy and silly as his other films (but he's still funny), it seems he actually went by the SCRIPT this time around. Seriously awesome movie.

I'm quite interested in seeing this, even though I haven't read the books. I really don't like Jim Carrey that much, so the fact that you said this is not his typical film makes me feel a bit more at east about going to see it. :)

Compared with Harry Potter, there are clearly similarities, but I'm sure there must be a number of differences as well? Without ruining the story for me, perhaps you could briefly overview the story and how it compares to HP?

It's like Big Fish meets Harry Potter in a sense that in reality the things that happen in this movie could never happen in real life, but the movie somehow makes you think it IS real.

The basic story in a nutshell is Three children lose there parents in a fire, and they are sent to live with there 3rd cousin 4 times removed (or is it 4th cousin 3 times removed?) Count Olaf. Count Olaf is an evil man who just wants the families huge inheritance, and he basically turns the orphans into his slaves....etc etc....from that point on a lot of wacky things happen. I think fans of the book and people who have never read the books will enjoy this movie.

There aren't really any spoilers in that as long as you've seen the trailer to the film.

I saw it last night, it was odd, but fantastic. The movie had a wonderful look, and it was very dark for a "kids" movie.

Yeah, me neither. I was disapointed at the end because with all the clues and a cloud of mystery sorrounding everything, it made it seem really complicated, as though it were something really big, but it wasn't that big or elaborate as I thought it was gonna be.

...Maybe because this movie was only based on books 1-3, and the answers don't come till later...

That movie was based on a series of books?!?!?!?!?!

Interesting....

But yes, definitely not the typical Jim Carrey movie.

I thought it was pretty good, kind of odd and off the wall though... I think I'll have to see it again to really make sure I know whether or not I liked it, it kind of lost my attention after about 3/4s so I may have missed a little here and there.

See Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, then say if you hate Jim Carey. That movie is great in just about every way possible.

I read about six books from the series before I realised it was essentially the same story every single time with Count Olaf in a different costume. Got lame.
