Car accidents suck!

I know this road well so I wasn't going as carefully as I should have been, there was about an inch of snow. Earlier on the road I did a break test and it was fine, the road was not sliperly at all.
So I didn't feel the need to take the extra precaution going around one corner, but I should have. Slid off and landed right in a tree, air bags went off.
Finding out later that I was lucky. Over the years, there's been dozens of accidents on this very spot, and 4 deaths.

Freind broke his nose, has 60 stiches, and will probably have to get minor plastic surgery.
Other than that the rest of us jut have minor bruises.

Condiition wise, car is pretty much fine, but since the air bags went off, money wise the thing is totaled. I don't plan to get a new car anytime soon though, I don't want to drive.

Anyone else have near death experences here? If I didn't hit this tree we probably would have been alot worse off. I would have continued down into a ravine, most likely rolling the car and landing in river.

I had no near death accidents, but I been in only one in my 2 year driving life. Car was totaled, but looks better than ever! (Black '93 Honda Accord Aniversery addition with black leather interior. Small but reliable to go around on.)

Just be calm when you're about to crash. Don't tense up, you'll break your arms.

And be sure to be seated right, I seen some people with their knees in their...well..you know where...all because they wern't seated right.

Wear a seatbelt. But make sure the straps are positioned right (Not on your neck, on your shoulder blade. Not on your gut, underneith the pointy parts of your hip bone.) Seen a few guys literally almost *cut* in half.

Get a generation 2 air bag.

That is all the safty tips from the Wise Jereiaki.

Glad you're ok (i think), but still get out and drive around.

[EDIT:] Boba Fett finds it amusing and lets people figure out advice for their own. But, I'm such a nice guy, I gave you useless information that might save your life.

I won't do it again.

So take it heedingly, and Happy Holidays!

back in the fall time in like grade 10 i was in the front seat with my friend driving and 3 other ppl in the back seat, dunno what happened but he lost control of the car started fishtailing at 100 km/h then into a sign post, ditch, and nailed a huge 10 foot tall tree stump head on.. me and the driver had bruised kidneys from the seatbelts but it was nothng serious, and the 1 kid in the middle in the back smashed his front teeth out on his knee or something.. and 1 guy had a cut on his head from broken glass, other guy was fine

car was written off

-----

last winter me and 4 friends were going to some arena cause our friend really wanted us to come watch her figure skating competition (yay! ... )

anyways the roads were bad and it was snowing hard out and the driver was driving cautiously but we hit black ice on a straight away on the highway and lost control of the car, went down like a 10 foot ditch and into a bunch of bushes.. no one hurt at all, car had a bit of damage that was about it.. bunch of people pulled over to check on us.. 1 guy was like "THAT LOOKED SO AWESOME..you guys ok?"

those are my only accidents..ive never been in one while driving... i love to have fun in the snow and be an idiot (if theres no other cars in my way), but so far so good

I've enver been in a serious accident. Be bumped a few times, but nothing serious.

It's funny, I was the only one not wearing a seatbelt and I received the least injury.

I received a slight burn/rash from the airbag, but that's about it. I was relaxed about it, I knew tensing up wouldn't help.

My mom and I were going 25-30MPH and the axle broke and we rammed right into a telephone pole. My mom and I had huge bruises, and the airbag burnt my first few layers of skin clean off my face. I was bleeding all over the place. The car was ruined. My door was smashed into my legs and the seats, my shirt, pants you name it had blood on it. I even broke one of my fingers. Then you see movies like I, Robot, where a persons car flips over about 20 times after they go 180MPH and they walk away with nothing but a bloody lip. if 25MPH can do all that stuff no way in hell 180MPH will leave you with a scratched lip! Man my accident was scary. It was like my mom and I were driving and then half a millisecond later I see smoke, and I'm bleeding. It was freaky as hell. I don't even remember swerving or crashing, just talking...blood.

I was hit head-on a few years back by a drunk driver... I was going about 45mph (the speed limit), and who knows how fast the other driver was going... they just veered right into me with hardly and time for me to react. I just had whiplash and minor bruising from my seatbelt. I was very lucky... my car was smashed to hell, but the other driver's car was in far worse shape than mine.

I did manage to flip my car over about six months after I got my license. I went a wee bit too fast around a corner that I knew pretty well, and it had rained a bit earlier (you know, enough to make oil on the road slick, but not enough to wash it away). I started fishtailing and hit the edge of a small ravine/creek. Flipped the car over. I walked away fine and was able to get all my stuff out. I even salvaged the CD player and have it in the replacement car that I've had since then. Only thing that happened was a cut on my heel, probably when I went back, barefoot, to get my guitar out. Yeah, that was stupid.

I am replacing the airbags in my car right now. I got the driver's side for 20 bucks on Ebay. I'm not actually hooking them back up though. They are SRS airbags, and I'm not sure how to reset them. But you can probably get a set of airbags if you want a 'dummy' setup (just don't hook the cable up) for about 50 bucks on Ebay.

A friend of mine actually flipped a Probe end over end. Going way too fast down a hill, cones in the road, and a driver in the oncoming lane...he hit a ditch and the car just flipped forward. He wasn't hurt at all.

So far, no one ahs had any serious accidents..but the way I drive, I'm surprised I haven't rolled my jeep.

If you're not hooking it up, why bother replacing them? They'll be kinda useless.

2 days ago I lost a friend in a car accident, way over 100kmph in a 40kmph zone. The driver clipped another car during a drag and went of the road into a tree, throwing the passenger out and some how pinning him in between the car and the tree. He died slowly, there was nothing they could do. The driver made it out with gashes and brusies but with the torment that he killed his best mate. All of my friends and I are taking things a lot more seriously on the roads. He was only 17, life can really suck sometimes. :( it was so close to Christmas too.

My cousin broke her back up in St. Louis (actually an hour south, but who's counting?) after hitting some black ice. She's perfectly fine, it didn't sever her spinal cord, not paralyzed, but she broke her effing BACK. God knows she's going to have back pains for the rest of her life. It sucks too, she's really a good driver.

I never had a car accident but I found a video online about a dangerous intersection. Looks like the reporter was right.

i had a near death experience this summer. My family had rented a little house by Bear Lake, and while most people were at the lake I was eating a piece of licorice at the house and started choking. And I don't mean "*cough cough* ugh, I'm choking". I mean mouth wide open, nothing coming in or going out and arms flailing trying to get attention. It's strange, you can hold your breath for 30+ seconds and the only thing you feel is maybe a burning in your lungs but other than that you are fine. But when I was choking, my vision started to go black by probably second 5. Anyway, I was lucky my aunt-in-law was there and she gave me the heimliche(sp?).

Can't really drive with a set of airbags hanging there.
