The film adaptation of three classic Sin City albums (Sin City, The Big Fat Kill, and That Yellow B*****d). Sin City is Frank Miller's dark film-noire-esque series of comics that are drawn in black and white (actually, they're drawn with white ink on black paper), except for certain colours used for dramatic effect (red lips, a red dress, the yellow ******* etc.)
A collection of stories concerning the characters who inhabit the fictional Basin City, a pretty scummy place where life is cheap. Each story tends to focus on a separate character, though there are recurring characters such as Marv (a seemingly indestructible presence of a killer with a heart of gold in the shape of a big muscular simpleton who hates misogynists) or Fat Man and Little Boy (two crooks who always end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and have surprisingly profound discussions). The hero usually ends up taking an incredible amount of punishment at some point or other.
Cue voice-over monologues, classic cars, lots of rain, cigarettes, booze, sex, violence, and ferocious gunplay. What's not to like?
I'm bad at describing things, so just look take a look at the two links I referred to earlier especially for the poor individuals who've missed out on Sin City.
Lots of style with a surprising amount of substance, great narrative, and a sizeable bodycount.
