I switch, I like the retro amd simple look of the Windows Classic theme, but I sometime use WindowBlinds to put another theme on it. I never use the default Windows XP theme.

I used to use a hacked uxtheme.dll, but then i discovered that microsoft made an addon theme for windows XP media center which is quite possibly the best theme available.

I have Royale. I use Windowblinds and a Corona theme tho.

For some reason the uxtheme.dll patcher never worked for me. *shrug*

I also run WindowBlinds on top of it, along with WindowFX for shadow and transparency goodness, and Object Dock to replace my quicklaunch.

I've always though the majority of Xp themes looked really fugly.

Hacked uxtheme.dll plus OpusBlue or any other b0se skin = Victory.
VTEC just kicked in, yo!

I used Winblinds for a bit then I went back to New Windows XP Silver... I find there is less overhead this way.

What do you use to hack that .dll and are there only certain themes you can use with it? Or better yet, link?

Yea, what's up with this hacking the .dll thing.
I opened it with ResHack and it has nothing to edit.

I used to use windowblinds and all those skinning programs, but then it became a matter of performance over form. Then, I switched to litestep shell, got a better skin than you could possibly get by just skinning explorer.exe, and it runs better than explorer.exe too.

Search for the dll name on google, it comes up with a bunch of patches. I am now using to run my favourite theme, foreverblue. Woot :)

I tried Litestep. I hated the way it worked, and couldn't be arsed to reprogram anything at that point. Plus it sucked more resources than explorer.

Meh.

I use WindowsXP Silver. It's fairly clean, and it isn't as ugly as the default blue. I tried WindowsBlinds and LiteStep, but the performance hit with the first and the lack of drag-and-drop with the second steered me away from both.

Meh.

All my benchmarks show it running better than explorer.exe on my particular laptop setup. (400mhz, 192mbram, xp[ack]). I have seen it vary, though, and is also very dependent on what skin/plugins you have running. When I get home I'll upload a screenie.

Since we're on the subject of themes...

Does anyone here know how to get a full start menu in Object Dock? I can make a bunch of seperate ones for my programs menu and such, but nothing like the current all inclusive start menu. Right now, that's the only thing preventing me from using Object Dock for anything more than a tabbed quicklaunch replacement.

Push the Windows key.

I know that, but if there's a way to make a menu on the dock, I'd prefer it.

I have that icon set and love it. But the skin looks... well... I think it'd be more distracting than I like. Of course, that shoot seems to have all the little items shoved into it, so I dunno...
