The rulage and awesomeness that is Knoppix

After Debian Woody's X-Server wouldn't work on my machine due to my modern hardware, and neither would my onboard NIC, I went without for a little while.
Then Knoppix came along. Booted it up, did a HD install, and after figuring out that pressing the cd eject button while its trying to install is NOT a good idea,
After repairing my MBR, and reinstalling, it worked. Now im running it as well as XP Prof. Corp, and Im loving it.
Apt-get aint working to well...I think its got the wrong addresses set up for the Unstable repsotories...but other than that...going great! Even my sound system is working right now! (On Mandrake, it was re-routing the bass to my satellite speakers. Sounded great. Now bass goes to my sub-(w)doofer )

The apt-get that comes with Knoppix is a mix of stable and unstable. My apt-get experience wasn't the best with Knoppix. My experience with Debian was even worse (wretched installation scripts!). I am thouroughly satisfied with Gentoo and Portage.

Is it just me, or is massassi having a linux overdoes? (I'm sure that I am not helping [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif])

Python can do things in 1 line... but it isn't recommened, because then your code will start to look cryptic and confusing, just like perl. [http://forums.gentoo.org/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif]

Perl:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w

use strict;

my @records = ();

foreach my $line ( <> )
{
    my @record = map {s/"//g; $_} split("\t", $line);
    push(@records, \@record);

}

@contactRecords = sort {$$a[0] cmp $$b[0]} @contactRecords;
@contactRecords = grep($$_[1] eq "1", @contactRecords);

foreach my $r ( @contactRecords )
{
    print join("\t", @$r), "\n";
}

Python:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/python

import fileinput

records = []

for line in fileinput.input():
    record = [field.replace('"', '') for field in line.split("\t")]
    records.append(record)

EMAIL = 17
CONTACTME = 27
SKUTITLE = 34

contactRecords = [[r[SKUTITLE], r[CONTACTME], r] for r in records]
contactRecords.sort() # default sort will group by sku title
contactRecords = filter(lambda r: r[1] == "1", contactRecords)

for r in contactRecords:
    print "\t".join(r)

EXTERIOR: DAGOBAH -- DAY
With Yoda strapped to his back, Luke climbs up one of the

exercises -- grepping, installing new packages, logging in as
root, and writing replacements for two-year-old shell scripts

YODA: Code! Yes. A programmer's strength flows from code maintainability.
But beware of Perl. Terse syntax... more than one way to do it...
default variables. The dark side of code maintainability are they.
Easily they flow, quick to join you when code you write. If once
you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny,
consume you it will.

LUKE: Is Perl better than Python?

YODA: No... no... no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.

LUKE: But how will I know why Python is better than Perl?
