Being Single vs Having Bf/Gf
2004-12-24, 3:58 PM #1
In my short experience with the opposite sex (only started being around women a year ago) and my brief painful relationships, being single now I can honestly say I'm happier.

The lust and boost in ego in having a partner can be ok, but the drawbacks, such as falling out, not feeling satisfied, them cheating on you or not putting out, and alllll the emotional BS that comes with it, ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT!!!

Being single, you can still have fun with the whole "being fancied" mollarky, but never actually getting with them seems to be better in the long run.

Dancing and flirting is great, and none of the drawbacks mentioned above apply in that situation.

Your opinions massassi??

I agree with what you stated above ^^ for the time being. Being 21 and just having fun is great right now. I agree with Mr. Stafford on relationships being good if u find the right person, but i dont see that happening anytime soon. So nothing against relationships, but until that person comes along i'm all about being single and flirting and just enjoying being with friends, flirting and all that good stuff ;)

Well being single sucks, but I can't comment on whether being in a relationship sucks.

I went the first year of college single and it was great. This year I have been in a relationship and it has been great. Can't really say either is bad...especially when you go to a school that has a lot of things to do for entertainment. Now, if you are single and bored, I can see where problems might arise.

Now, is the first option for the wholly celibate, or only the partial celibate?

I generally prefer casual, non-commitment dating to begin with, which then develops into a short-term relationship, which may then develop into a long term relationship if things work out well.

That's all you are going to get out of me today. :)

That's exactly why long term relationships are better. DUH. Because you don't have to deal with all that nearly as much as you do with short-term relationships.

Also, don't date horny girls (ironically) because they're more likely to cheat on you.

Not that I would know.

I always feel kinda left out when I see everyone with someone else and my friends who are girls always talking about who's with who. Plus having someone rocks.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

I'm in love :) ish.

It feels great. It would suck if it was one sided, but you when you get the feeling it's reciprocal... well, when you feel it coming back then.... :) it's just amazing.

Last night I saw [sorry] Lemony Snickett's a series of unfofudofuasdofusdogtjstlkjasdf eventnsntnss with the girl i'm currently interested in, and of her own free will [not sure why i felt the need to say that o.O] she kissed me. Which is kinda awesome because she just got over getting let down by some other guy and has expressed doubts about a relationship w/ me.

yep, no one cares :)

For someone who'd rather be single, you sure do make a lot of girl threads.

I can stand being single, but I'd prefer having a long term relationship.

Indeed.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

I'll have to go with single and flirtatious, but only because that's what I am most used to. After a couple failed relationships, I can't say I'm happier this way, but I am more stable. With relationships came great happiness, but at least double the misery afterwards. Right now I'm enjoying being calm and centered, but I wouldn't mind giving it another go soon, I think.

Celibate. Sex is wrong.

[Annendum: I guess I should explain my position further. I figure I'm such an awful and wretched person that causing someone to love me would be a terrible thing to do. Plus, I don't like being touched.]

Same here, except it was only one year for me.

Single and flirting. Who wants to be tied down? Feh, I had two relationships and looking back...I don't think I would be able to stand such limits unless she was mind-blowingly perfect.

That's the ultimate goal of us long-term seekers; someone so perfectly suited for us that it's nearly unbelievable.

...or maybe that's just my goal.

I don't mind being single as it lets me do what I want and have a really good time. Doesn't mean I don't like being in a good realtionship either, as I am now. I'm having a good time with my current girl.

I've had two short relationships, and both were fun while they lasted. Ideally, I'm looking for somebody to spend the rest of my life with, but being single for now isn't all that bad. I'm sure everything will come to pass as it should in due time.

You know, 30 years ago they had something called marriage. That was when you actually committed to someone all your life. Then people realized that they got divorced so easily that it was easier just forget the whole thing and skip right to the sleeping around part. Now long term means a few years. Some people actually still get married and bring up kids, but they're just old fashioned and stupid. I mean, everyone knows that your pleasure now is way more important than any kids it might produce.

While the divorce-to-new-marriage ratio has increased to 50%, the actual divorce rate has declined since the 70's.

Is there some reason why you shouldn't consider a non-marital relationship that lasts a few years to be long-term?

Not everyone has sexual relationships. Or are you actually saying that you shouldn't date someone unless you think you'll marry them?
