I just got Painkiller...and err I just beat Painkiller.

The game was pretty short. 25 levels, and each level was maybe 10-25 mins long. But since the entire game is just shooting crap the replay value is insane. This game in a nutshell is a 'Gothic Serious Sam With Near-HL2 Graphics.'

This game is insanely awesome. I mean it's just insane. Kill stuff, collect their souls, morph into a demon....kill stuff...KILL STUFF! I was glued to my PC from the moment I got this game going. If you are into pointless killing go buy this. I just beat the game and I can't wait to get the expansion. The name of the expansion 'Battle out of Hell' kind of gives away the ending of Painkiller, but no worries, the game isn't built for plot..it's just a crappy little extra! The cutscenes look OKAY, the lips don't even come close to matching up with the words, but you just watch and move on to killing stuff. The 'plot' does add to the game, because even though you only see 3 or 4 cutscenes, each one keeps you waiting for the next. The game actually has tiny 'plot twists'. (ohhh! ahhhhh!) I've been waiting to buy this game since it came out, and my brother bought it for me for christmas.

I'm going to get the expansion as soon as I can, but for now I want to know what you guys think of Painkiller and what those of you who have the expansion think of it.

P.S. Painkiller won't appeal to everyone, but if you enjoyed Serious Sam, or if you just enjoy pointless killing, this is the game for you! It makes a great stress reliever too! If you aren't into pointless killing you may find this game a bit boring.

That would be me. I found it incredibly boring. For pointless killing, I turn to Postal. It's so much fun to walk into the entrance of the grocery store or gay bar, dump massive ammounts of gasoline on the floor, and then light it and watch everyone in the building run into the fire, and then run back through the store setting others on fire.

I may get it just for the visual stimulation, but killing things tends to bore me after a while.

Postal is a great game to play at a LAN party. Nothing's better than urinating on your friends before cow-heading them to death.

It bored me, which was surprising since I loved the demos.

I'll play through it again (got about halfway through the second series before quitting last time), only this time I'm just going to go around and kill things. I'm not going to worry about getting every holy item or black tarot card. That drove me crazy last time I played.

Also:
I don't know how many people already know this, but if you kill a guy with the Painkiller's secondary fire (killer), and keep juggling an enemy, he'll drop a trinket that's worth several gold pieces. Usually takes 3-5 'hits' with the killer to get him to drop it. It won't work if he hits the ground though.

I looked up Black Tarots at gamefaqs, that way I would only waste time getting the cards that were going to be useful to me.
The cards were a very cool feature, and the demon morphing, but yeah, it still bored me with its repetition.
If only the AI had some brains, that might have improved things for me.

very true. The ai consists primarily of "Run straight at the player and attack".

I like the "run at player and just attack" scheme. It's like playing another rendition of a Resident Evil movie; Take a cheesy shoot-em-up, but you're in the director's chair!! Gratuitous violence, and movie-style impact YESSS! Gotta love the stake-gun. MWAHAHAA

Battle Out Of Hell has alot of new effects, like heatwaves off the flames from the flamethrower, lots of lovely glow effects that make everything much more surreal. It's really short though, 1-2 hours MAYBE tops, but if you like killing it does that just as well as PK.

Little hintage thing:

Get the PK revved up and going, then hit secondary fire while holding primary. It's like a combination of the two... Go try it out ;)
