40 bucks in gamestop cash. I'll gladly throw in 10+tax. I've got a PS2, and a PC that can run any game you can throw at it.

Here's what I don't like about videogames:
Sports.
Racing.
Racing sports.
Hack.
Slash.
Hack and slash.
Mindless Shooters.
A lack of MP.
A lack of fun MP.
Generic fantasy games.
RTSs.
Movie Titles.
Piloting titles.
Mech games.
Little to no editing community. (PC)
RPGs without meaning. (Read: Diablo 2. I don't want to spend my life collecting items.)
Monthly Fees.
20 Expansion Packs.
Zombies.
Crappy controls/not being able to go certain places because it doesn't pertain to the story (Like jumping on to a box in the corner. If I can't do it, the game is too linear.)

While the above is difficult to work with, I'll give you a little hint into some games I DO enjoy:

Jedi Knight.
Farcry.
Kingdom Hearts.
HL2.
MGS. (Don't have 3 yet, waiting for reviews and friend's opinions)
Final Fantasy 8
Sonic.
DoD

Any suggestions? And why? And price? (USD)

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Best of the series, best game on PS2, no doubt.

Honestly, anything else is usually only rentworthy (Like Zone of the enders), or party worthy.

Get one of them.

FFX is good for many hours of gameplay on the PS2. I think it's a bestseller now, you probably could get it cheap. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec as well.

Serious Sam 2 if you don't already have it. Mindeless FPS to the extreme. It's ****ing hilarious.

I've heard good things about Shadow Hearts. Similar to FFX with a gothic twist, apparently.

I liked Psi-Ops, but you'd probably put it under "Mindless Shooting". More like a MGS-ish/SOCOM feel to it, with the physics engine out of HL2.

Both should be around $40 USD at most, I'm pretty sure.

I don't see RPG's in that list.

GT3 isn't a typical racing game either, there's actually a progression to it. And Serious Sam 2 isn't just any mindless FPS. :p
2004-12-27, 10:33 PM #11
By Mr. Bizzaro, I meant that you're telling me the oposite of what I want to hear. I already own FFX, and I don't like mindless shooters, so immediatly after I tell you these two things, you suggest FFX and Serious Sam.

You never mentioned FFX. You said FF. There are 11 of them, not counting crap sequels and derivatives such as Tactics et al.
2004-12-27, 10:35 PM #13
your list automatically disqualifies most pc titles, so this is quite difficult.
2004-12-27, 10:36 PM #14
As fun as Serious Sam 2 is. It is just a mindless fps.
It's a mindless fps with trippy levels that are unique to the Serious Sam series, but it is still just mindless repetitive shooting.

I hope to GOD you're not calling Tactics a "crap" anything...
2004-12-27, 10:47 PM #16
Oops. No, I meant stuff like X-2. :o Tactics is awesome.
2004-12-27, 10:50 PM #17
Damn right... X-2 wasn't THAT bad though. It just wasn't good
2004-12-27, 10:51 PM #18
You would probably like Deus Ex and No One Lives Forever.

Mail it all, to me, NOW. I still have a few games I want that I didn't get for Christmas. Being completely broke doesn't help much.

Have you seen my title?

I am currently debating:

MGS3
NOLF1&2
Deus Ex
CoD

These are all games people that know me say I'd enjoy. I could PROBABLY pick up nolf and deus ex for the 50, eh?

If you don't get Deus Ex, I will come to your house, and beat you. Violently. That's a promise. And I'll do it when you least expect it.

Deus Ex = win.

you could probably pick both up for less than $10... include their sequels and under $30 easy

Nolves and Deus Ex are excellent choices. Deus Ex should be cheap, you could probably get all three if you spent a little more.

Ah, I have to play NOLF again. What great AI, and I love the comments of the guards...especially when they find a dead body and try to figure out if they're alive or not.

I especially like NOLF2's AI. The characters *live* in the environment. The way they interact with the objects and with each other is phenominal. Such not well known but great games. They seem to have gone the way of System Shock, Thief and some other greats that still far exceed the leaders of the industry today.

You might like anachronox...

Great story (not pointless...but it takes a little time to get into unfortunately) THe plot unravels as time goes on.
It's cheesy, purposely, to make it funny, yet serious, with the sarcasm and humor known by the characters. It's the best blend of seriousness and sarcastic witty humor I've seen in a game...somewhat similar to ocean's 11.

It is an RPG.
There is no MP
There is no editing "community" but from what I hear, you can edit all you want, just no one cares because the game didn't get popular.
it is 10-20 bucks now

It is an RPG where you have people fight in an "arena" type setting, IE: like the FF series. Combat can be boring, sometimes, but combat can also be very good. it mixes and matches, depending on hwo involved in the story you get, and what kind of battle.

It's about 40 hours long ish.
It's AWESOME IMO.

I know what you mean, Emon. It's awesome to just stalk a guard for ten minutes, wait until he goes to the mess hall, gets a soda from the vending machine, sits down at the table, and then taze him. Then drag his body into a dark closet, kill him (silently, of course), then steal his AK47. :D

Deus Ex, NOLF 1 and 2, and if you have the cash, MGS3.

Serious Sam if you don't have the cash for MGS3, because you'll probably be left with 10-20 bucks. And it's worth the whole 5 dollars you'll pay for it.

Yes I read your whole "I hate mindless shooters" bit. My comment still stands.

Get CoD and CoDUO(United Offensive). Best WWII game I have ever played(in fact, best FPS I've ever played too). And there are some emotional sequences too. *sheds a tear thinking about the music that plays while you are desperately trying to hold off a German counterattack at the bridge you take as a brit*

X2 isn't that bad, I was playing it just before I came online. Its good for some areas but it lacks in other areas. Get one of the above mentioned, they all play well by me.

Yep MGS 3 is AWESOME. I suggest it or if you wanna play your PS2 on-line go with something like....Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. But yea you NEED MGS 3.

My vote goes to NOLF 1&2
Very entertaining. Plenty of humour and pretty good gameplay too.
Dammit, now I feel like playing them again. Time for some cd hunting.

Just to throw out something that hasn't been mentioned yet, the Hitman series is definately worth at least checking out, and you could easily get the first two games (and maybe Contracts, but I doubt it) for under $50.
2004-12-28, 9:45 AM #37
Well, now I'm pretty decided on getting Nolf1n2 as well as Deus Ex. I should be able to blow the whole 40 bucks without adding any on even for tax. I'm leaving in 2 hours, so you have until then to give me any other ideas.

Thanks guys.

Add another vote for NOLF1/2 (currently playing through 2) and Deus Ex.
Anachronox is good, and funny, but it gets boring for long stretches. I got to the point of fighting that guy on the disk with the colours, above the fountain and it kept crashing every time. I gave up in the end.
Sly Raccoon 2 is the most fun I've had on a console. Its exceptionally hard for what is supposed to be a kids game, but the puzzles and gameplay are great.

Whelp, Gamestop, being the noobs that they are, don't have NolF1/2 or Deus Ex. Calling the other gamestop, but it looks like I'll be getting MGS3.
