I just saw this movie and I must say it has to be one of the best films I've ever seen. I strongly reccomend this film to everyone. The moment this movie ended I said to myself 'boy Edward Norton should have won an oscar for that'. I looked into it online and come to find out he really was nominated for an oscar.

Has anyone else seen this? If so, what did you think?

The whole teeth on the curb thing was very disturbing.

...and yet you find the anal rape perfectly normal? ;)

The shower scene didn't disturb me at all; however, the sidewalk scene did. Just certain subtle aspects of it made it really disturbing, like the sound of the guy's teeth scrapping on the pavement.

Overall, I enjoyed the film when I saw it, but it isn't a multiple-viewing type movie. Good performances from all actors, underrated performances at that. However, I think Derek's turnaround could have been done differently. Just seemed too quick. The progression to show how hateful he became was gradual and was done well, it was kind of the opposite when he came around.

I consider this to be one of the best movies I have ever seen as well. When I first watched it, I had no idea what it was about or what to expect, and it totally surprised me at how good it was.

Excellent movie...though if I ever see it again, I am fast forwarding past the curb scene. Never before has a movie scene made me scream "NO NO NO NO NO DON'T DO THAT!" quite like that one.

Good movie.

This sounds like something I'm going to have to see.

What's the story about?

It's about a racist Neo-Nazi guy who sees the error of his ways after going to prison, only to come back to society to find he doesn't fit in anymore.

Very good movie. A friend of mine had seen it before me, and warned me about the curb scene. He told me you wouldnt see anything but it would still make you sick. Even thinking about makes my teeth hurt...oh god.

We were just talking about this movie tonight.

The thing with the Dad could have been done more. It was just one scene that suggested that the racist tendancies could have been spawned by the father - this was quite an important point and I think deserved more time. It seemed to have just been tacked on at the end.

bite the curb....

*shudder* I've never actually watched the curb thing all the way through, I always hide behind something like a little girl! but it still haunted me for months after I first saw it.
When did it come out? I saw it in the cinema and remember thinking it was the best film in the whole world ever and I had to spread the news of it's amazingness. Saw it again a few years later (at Sami's, I think) and it wasn't quite the life changer I remembered, but still very good.

I saw it in school a few years back. It's really great. And the "Bite the curb" scene hauned me for some time afterwards, too.

Holy cow, they showed that *in school* !? Are you talking about like high school or maybe college? I could understand in college... but any younger than that... *shudder*

Hooray for Nordic schools making students view thoroughly depressing films or documentary footage in or for school. Glad they don't just do that here :)

I've meant to watch the whole thing, I've only seen the latter post-prison half on TV some time ago. But then again, this really doesn't seem to be the type of film that people rent or buy to enjoy and watch again, so when I've ended up with the film in one hand, and something more entertaining in the other hand, I've always gone with the more entertaining option. Besides, I know how it ends...
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I never seen this movie? So what's this curb scene? What does some guy make another guy bite the curb so hard that it breaks his teeth?

Derek makes the guy bite the curb, then smashes his head with his foot, splitting the guy's mouth open and crushing his skull.
