I'd have to agree with 50% of the thread right now, that this looks like crap. Weta does amazing work, yes, but those concept drawings aren't impressive at all.

If anyone can somehow manage to make a live action Eva good, it's Weta.
2004-12-29, 11:40 AM #10
This is gonna be a bombshell of suckiness. For one, look at the names! Why the hell would you change the names of all the characters?!

Asuka = Kate Rose (wtf? At least give her a German name!)
Rei = Ray (Phonetic change... and last name changed also, although I can't read it to well, it sure doesn't look like Ayanami)
Misato = Susan Whitnall? I'm sorry, but that's a big NO.

Not to mention, Rei has a different hair color, Misato looks nothing like her original, NERV looks completely different, and what's with New and Old city? It's TOKYO!!! TOKYO!!!

*explodes*

If they want to make a live action based on evangelion, that's fine. But don't say you are making an Evangelion life action then not even attempt to keep it the same.

Well.. did they rename Shinji?

The last time I checked, WETA was a special effects company; so why are some of you freaking out over the names? A director hasn't even be assigned to this movie (that we know of) and I do believe he will make all the important decisions like if everybody's names will remain the same as in the anime or not. Someone even mentioned "Kate Rose" as one of the clothing designers or something, so there's your proof right there that these are just preliminary names. Also, I read on some site that the plan is not to squeeze all the episodes into a 2 hour movie but that it will only involve around the first half of the episodes (I don't know if this web site if legit or not, so take this as rumor). If this is true, that just screams sequel if it's successful.I think what everyone needs to be worrying about the most is who the director will be. My wish is James Cameron (I can dream, can't I?). I can't tell you how badly I want this movie to blow my pants off, but I just can't help but get the feeling it's gonna suck. Anyways, here's to hoping!

Okay, even so, the look is totally different. God can only hope they don't mess with the storyline also.

yeah... uhm. ive seen the show (friend made me watch the dvds, it was alright) and i dont think its gonna work as a live action movie. not many animes could, imo.

They change the name so it can appeal more to Americans. I never seen this anime before, but I heard it was very popular. I also heard it was controversial and deep.

Unbelievably so.

The whole problem is, is that if any of the show changes, it'll totally ruin the story.

I thought Evangelion was deep for the first six hours. Then I realized they had just thrown random Biblical references everywhere without an overriding metaphor. Of course, I had just watched the whole thing in one sitting, ending at 8 in the morning, and it had stopped making sense four hours earlier.
2004-12-29, 11:25 PM #18
If they dare to mess it up in even the slightest way, they'd better have one of the EVAs protecting them.

Did you watch the original ending, or the movie ending though? The original was just a mish-mash, whereas the movie ending actually finished it.

Now all they need is a director, money, script, and some emo kid to play the main character.

Exactly six months ago I made the mistake of lending the Evangelion series off a mate.

I watched the entire series, and then decided to watch the movie. BIG MISTAKE. Sat infront of the television for half an hour afterwards wondering just what the hell had gone on.

The movie will suck if they're going to try and fit the whole story into two hours.. which I hope they dont.

That artwork is mighty impressive.

I kept scrolling down, viewing awesome drawing after awesome drawing.... and then the last box was a silly ad, and for split second my mind thought that was one of the Evangelion pictures. So now it's been defaced forever in my subconscious. Sorry!

just before this site starts badmouthing WETA, I will remind people that WETA is only doing the special effects, not the actual movie itself.

WETA ! = movie studio.

got that clear. thankyou.

They need to all die horrible deaths, simultaneously.

That should fix the problem.
