You see, recently I've like alot the style of drawing of anime. So I took some clases, but I ran out of money, and its too late to re-enter them. So, one day I discover POSER, and I'm impressed by it, but depressed by its price, so now I'm looking for a free, or a trial program that can do anime or manga, since pretty soon, I'm going to take a job down here on doing commercials.
Massassi, you know what to do.

EDIT: I already tried google, but it only came up with porn sites :(

Can't you just, you know, use a pencil and paper? I can't really see what a posh and spiffy program can do, apart from do it for you.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Hmmm, lets see what I must do...

Learn it
Animate my own stuff
Customize my own stuff
Still, I must accept its limits
Even make my own stuff
ETC...

So, maybe It doesn´t do it all alone...

Peter Chung wrote, directed, and animated Aeon Flux all by himself. And this was in the pre-CG era. It just takes a lot of dedication. But really, if you're serious about this, I'd suggest looking up one of the numerous forums on the internet that specialize on animation.

And may I ask, why specifically anime? In what sense? the googly eyed, inverted-seven nose sense? The plotline of a schoolgirl falling into some alternate universe and confronting some prophetic destiny nonsense that gets extended into 30+ hours of melodrama?

If you want to practice basic 2d animation, setting up joints etc, there's always Pivot Stickfigure Animator . It's a freeware program that you can use to make stickfigure animations, or any other type of entity that you can think of with joints. Until you find what you're looking for, it's as good a practice for keyframe animation as anything.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I do 3d models, in Blender, because I can't draw. So, I want to do some 2d stuff, like anime, because I like it, because its cool.

Uh, get a graphic tablet, and use your favorite drawing program, like Photoshop or Illustrator. (I use PS, but if you need something free, go with GIMP)

I think he means he can't draw at all.

I can't draw phiscally, on a piece of paper, and I lack the patience of drawing in a paint program with its custom pencil.

If you can't draw on a piece of paper, you have bigger problems. Mostly those that can model and animate well are good artists. It's easier to do if you already understand what you're modelling, etc.

Learn how to draw--it's worth the time and effort.

That's why he recommended a tablet. They make drawing in a paint program as if you were drawing on paper. But since you can't do that either...

that's not what I had in mind, I was thinking of a program like this one only that is free and does anime.

There is no such thing. I think you want something that you can just pick and chose certain items to make an anime 2d pic
and there's literally no such thing.

Even poser requires a lot of work to make a good looking person different from the defaults.

You can't expect a program to just do all the drawing work for you. You have to draw it, the programs available are there just to assist you towards doing that.

No offense Cool Matty, but the Witch Hunter Robin comics aren't exactly good at all.

Sorry to use you as an example here, but anime is one of those things that with enough practice, you should be able to draw it like you breathe. A lot of the problems that I see when most people draw anime is they try to hard. If you try to hard it usually looks like poop. Classes won't really teach you much at all. All you need is to look at a picture take it apart into simple shapes and build up from there. Practice drawing the basic shapes of an anime character until you don't need to try anymore.

I hope I haven't offended you. It was meant more as constructive critisism. It just seems that your trying way to hard to look like anime, and the results are pretty bad looking.
Think while it's still legal.

Anime is the #1 thing that kiddies draw to fool themselves into believing they are artists. IMHO >_<. I just see so many people in my classes at school who draw some 'googly-eyed upside down seven nosed' figure and think they are a cartoonist are an artist, despite the lack of depth, anatomical correctness, dimension and movement in the drawings.

Just a little pet peeve ;)

oooh BTW i was not accusing anyone in this thread of doing that >_<. Everyone seems to be using it as a stepping off point, or trying hard to master it for their own sake which is admirable.

AGHHH.

I know it looks bad, that's why I stopped. That's why there hasn't been a comic for months.

What I want to know is how my WHR comics got pulled into this conversation in the first place... what's this got to do with anything? (Anyway, on that convo, I have improved immensely. It wasn't that I was trying too hard, it was that I was just plain not good enough. And I didn't take any classes, never have. I practice by just drawing over and over, that's why I take my sketchbook everywhere. And I never claimed my WHR comics were good either, if you implied that. In fact, I've stated many times the exact opposite, that they suck completely. I just wanted to do it.)

Oh, and saberopus:
I can see where you get that, and there are definately those sorts of people. I don't think I am one though, since:

A. I don't plan on drawing as a profession in any way.
B. I do it as a hobby, and I have never taken classes/nor plan on taking classes
C. I only draw anime cause that's all I enjoy drawing. Hell, it's rare that I even draw a background, since it's so tedious.

;)

Indeed. I draw, but I'm starting to lean towards a more comical (read, of comics) style. I am realizing that Anime, while some of them are amazing and take awesome amounts of talent, for the most part, has no talent involved. I'm just starting to steer clear of it.

Not that it's easy. Hell, I'm having a helluva time just trying to figure out how to get the faces away from looking too much like anime faces--the realistic dimensions of the nose, the cheeks, etc.

Though I only draw as a hobby either way, so :p
