Do hair growth products work?

I don't care if they work on healthy hair, I'm talking balding, like George Costanza style.

So...are they a ripoff? There's actually a pun in that question.

Post experiences from you or someone you know, scientific facts are also appreciated.

[Edit] I'd like to add why I'm asking...my father from the UK recently came to Finland to attend my sister's funeral, and I noticed his hair was balding, he's in his 60s. I don't want that for my hair so if I start balding and something out there works, I'll take it! [/edit]
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Get over it, if you still have your hair at 60 consider yourself lucky. Have some pity for us unlucky souls who start losing it before we're 20.

You have a good 30-40 years to research this. I'll bet hair growth products will be different by the time you are balding.

My mom helped develop Propecia, and she's assured that it works. But she also raised me, and look how I turned out, so I'm not sure if she can be trusted.

The mainstream ones you hear about work, but not for everyone. If you haven't started thinning in your 20's you're probably safe.

just tell the ladies..."It's not a bald spot, it's a solar panel for a sex machine."

Aye. :(

BTW, darker hair helps mask thinning hair, which is why I stopped dying.

I'm genetically shielded. No one in my family is bald.

The effectiveness of hair growth products has a lot to do with the cause of what's making you bald in the first place. You'll have better luck if it's not male pattern baldness.

Here is some info for you.

I've been steadily losing my hair for the last few years now (I'm 23), but I always knew I was going to go bald since it runs in the family. But seeing as I shave my head now so that I don't have to look after my hair, I think I'll be glad when it all falls out.

You have given me hope! I now believe that I might well be able to spare my hair. Thank you.

^^^ That's awesome, but yeah anyways, I think Rogain works to maintain hair, but wouldn't... know. I got a few decades to worry about that
