which one do you think is the most promising

speilberg's modern-day version that seems to be seriously varying from the book?

the pendragon pictures film that is based closely to the novel.

or jeff wayne's cgi movie that is based around his musical version (and includes a lot of his music)

I really liked the musical version, but I'm not an avid movie watcher.

And there are three simultaneously? News to me.

actualy, only the speilburg and pendragon are coming out around the same time, the cgi movie that jeff wayne is doing doesn't come out until 2007. :(

well, I guess it is becuse he doesn't want his to be mixed up with any of the others and he also will get some amount of royalties as he owns partial rights from when he did the musical (his dad bought them for jeff as a present).

All these movies are indepentdent of each other as well.

I dare you to go on a war of the worlds fansite and say that.

the original was as far as you can get from the novel without lossing the basic plot.

The pictures from pendragon pictures look very very nice.
Think while it's still legal.

So, let me get this right. Not one, not two, but all three of these film makers have not any original thoughts in their collective brains? Speilberg can't make Indy 4, why? Oh, maybe it was too original an idea at the time. Maybe he's trying to leave something for the next generation of film makers to ripoff.

Although, I'm sure the films will turn out well.

The radio version should most definately be a choice.

lets see,

jeff wayne already owns the rights (at least partly) to the war of the worlds and is just doing this to have something to watch along with the music. :D He is already realesing his musical version in 5.1 format sometime this year :D :D with extras such as the making of the album and remixes of the music.

as for speilberg, that I have to agree on about only in it for the money, not because he can't think of an original idea, but because he thinks that he can make a good sci fi move. It will be, wait till this july and you will see, it may not be close to the original novel but it will still be a good movie. I has Tom cruise in it for crying out loud. Also, it was greenlighted extreemly early, meaning cruise and speilburg had to delay other projects to work on this one.

Pendragon had announced (and actualy aborted a modern day setting idea for the film) their film at the same time or earlyer then speilberg's film. they just hapened to come up with that idea.
