Something you opened with Windows Explore might have tried to access something it didn't have permission to and to correct it Windows simply closed the whole operation down from the source... It happens...

Well with all due respect if you where getting Windows Explore errors in a MAC OS version there might be some copyright enfridgement there.

You should really avoid comparing two completely diffrent OS's or you're gonna make yourself look like an utter fool... MAC OS has it's problems like every other operating system.
2005-01-03, 12:43 PM #10
DJ- Technically it's not a joke, since I actually got this error. ;)

but yeah. Take this as a funny. I'm not saying Macs are gods, nor am I saying that Windows is the devil, and I understand that explorer probably tried to access something it wasn't supposed to.. but..

LAUGH.

Stop it now, or else I'd like an admin to close the thread.

Just for clarification...

Did the 'Windows Explorer' have to be closed (right click on the start menu, click explore) or was it the Explorer (The Windows Shell (Explorer.exe))?

You do realize there is absolutely no difference between either of them?

Don't believe me?

Go run explorer.exe in your windows/WINNT folder. It'll bring up Windows Explorer. Then close it.

And now go end the process in task manager named explorer.exe. You'll notice that the task bar goes away at the bottom. Now, still in task manager, go to File>New Task (run) and find explorer.exe again. Run it. Bam, your task bar is back again. :p

(Note that if you are unable to run explorer.exe on that second part, either because you closed task manager or some other odd reason, it should come back itself after a long period. Or you can hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose Shutdown...)

Closing Windows Explorer also crashed the computer. So.. yeah. :p

Actually, I have run Windows Explorer using the run command, but somehow it never occurred to me that they were the exact same file... thanks for pointing that out, I am now just a little bit smarter.

It never occured to me they were one-in-the-same, despite that I knew they both could be ran using the same command, yet I always thought of them as two completely separate files...

(Note: I meant no sarcasm in my post, everything I said is true, and not to be a "bash" of any kind against anyone, in case you may have read it that way.)

Can we have a new rule REQUIRING such notes to be added to the end of every post UNLESS sarcasm is intended? I'm serious. It seems to me that many non-offensive posts get bashed because of misinterpretation of sarcasm. Just my $0.02

Very much agreed.

It's just so easy for people to read things online in a different manner than they were intended, which can easily cause an un-needed bashing or something... but this is not the topic at hand, so I think further discussion should be moved to a new thread, or PMs.

Nor was my post, although reading it again sure gives that feel.

I haven't had this error before. I'm on W2K complete with a firewall and a virus checker. If the program is terminated because it thinks there is a virus, maybe you should check it out. The only time I got a virus warning from a Windows system was when I was working on scanning dockuments. I scanned, copied the file to a binder program, deleted the file, and scanned the next document. I did this so quickly that the files disappeared quick enough for windows to call it an act of a virus. Rebooted the system 3 times before I realised that I was working too quickly.
If all else fails, you could either switch to Linux, or if you are too tied to JK editing or anything that needs windows, you could always degrade to (if you're running XP) W2K or (if you ARE running 2k) 98/95.
