My original intent for this thread was not necessarilly to start debate but feel free. Anyway, there's this anchor on Fox News name Gregg Jarrett, and damn can he be a mean cuss when he's interviewing people. The thing is, he's saying the stuff that most people are thinking and probably want to see the response to. But it's just seeing how harsh the questioning that can be that just having you reeling in both humor and an "I can't believe he said that" kind of way.

For example, he was interviewing Elecia Battle, the woman who fraudulently claimed to loses a winning lottery ticket in Chicago. Well she now plans to get into boxing, playing off the MegaLotto fiasco by using the ringside name Mega Battle. He started fairly softball, for him, but in short order was asking her about playing off the fraud and how her previous assault convictions would help her in the ring.

In short, damn he treats some [read those who probably deserve it] like *** when he's asking those harsh questions but it's what we're probably thinking. Take this thread where you want but I would hope you keep it on Fox News.

I love the way in which fox news is presented (Far more personable than most news stations) but I can only watch it for so long before the constant insert of opinions is too overwhelming. Fox and Friends specifically plays politics right on their show. I'd just like to hear the news, not your political opinions on something that is probably none of your or our business anyway.

When it comes to the presentation of opinions, what I like about Fox News is that it's not meant to be transparent. That's, I think, why most people prefer them many other networks. Fox News tends to have their commentators be more open in what their opinions are rather than just try to factually report based on opinions. Plus, it's not like they don't have many voices come on to express different opinions.

I missed jedikirby's point. I think he's correct. It's a much better presentation. I do have one big problem with the network, though, and I'll give you a hint. If you've seen the anti-fox news "documentary", it was in there. I think it was called something like "Fair and Balance: Ruppert Murdoch's War on Journalism"

Off topic: I was watching NBC news tonight, and they were talking about Bush, Bush Sr. and Clinton and their plans for the tsunami relief. They referred to the president as "Mr. Bush", and Clinton as "President Clinton". That is all.

To be fair, that could have been to differentiate in the minds of the simpleton viewers Bush "Sr" and "Jr". Maybe.

Now the Faux News label is one that irritates me. Faux means "false", correct. False-news would seem to me to be manufactured. So far as I know, Fox News has not been shown to ever manufacture news where as I can think of instance of CNN, NBC, and CBS being involved in, if not guilty ot.

i watched fox news for about 10 minutes once. after the constant waving of the US flag and the lack of any news outside of the lower 48's borders, i gave up.
there's more world out there than iraq and the lower 48. most americans that watch fox news don't even remember what afghanistan is. that was soooo 2 years ago.
(yeah that's right. 10 minutes is an exageration.)
imho.
so i get my news from a couple of sources.
- cbc
- cnn (which i hate becuase even they don't know there are more than 3 countries in the world)
- bbc (sometimes)
- random respectable internet sites

Same here. The only american media I still watch is CNN. They're still good for knowing if something particularly important happened, but you can't really trust those 'facts' they give.

Come on, Wookie. Fox has a history of neutering their investigative reporters, usually in response to corporate pressure. If they haven't been involved in any other scandals, which I doubt, it's only because they take no risks, shoveling pablum instead of fulfilling their obligations to the public.

Basically, Fox's abundance of infantile political discussion shows are poor crutches for their canned news reports, as are the hostile interviewing techniques you mentioned. They're like an opinion rag that spins AP reports for content.

TV news is a wasteland, anyway. Google News and other aggregators are the New York Times to television's tabloids.

I want cites for your vague accusations, too.

Fox News is comedy news. Watching it is really quite entertaining. How can they even pretend to be a news programme?

Most if not all the television news spin news stories in some direction. Fox News just doesn't try to hide it as much.

Anyway, I don't trust most media anyway and their arm chair generals. "Oh no, a sandstorm! Our invasion is now going to fail!"

I especially found amusing when someone said that the push for Baghdad was taking too long. This was in the second week.

Cites? That would require me going to google to research the following: NBC with rigging suv to explode on contact, CBS and forged National Guard documents, and CNN with false assault weapon ammunition tests. Might have to play with the wording abit to get to the actual information but these were all fairly well reported on at each occurance. I'm sure there's more but that's off the top of my head. If I get bored in the next few minutes I'll look for them myself. I just didn't sleep too well last night so I'm kind of tired.

edit -

Google "1992 dateline chevy explode"

Google "CNN AK47 Florida ammunition"

And I doubt you really need me to cite something about the forged National Guard documents, do you? Even the layman can see they're most likely fake with the naked eye on a television or computer monitor.

Thanks, Wookie. I'm always interested in the failings of the mainstream media. It's worth mentioning that Fox News is only 8 years old, compared to CNN's 24 years.

For my part, try "fox-news rbgh" and "fox-news foxgate". Not to mention that study that indicates that Fox News viewers are the most ill informed of any, making Ubuu at least statistically more likely to be better informed than you.

I prefer watching CNN Headline News, with anchors that are not very well known. I find that when listening to Blitzer, King or O'Reilly (trying to cover more than one news service), I can't stand their injection of personal opinion on matters at hand. What I like about HNN is that their scheduling leaves very little opportunity for the anchors to insert bias beyond what is written on their papers or what is on the teleprompters.

My problem with CNN isn't so much that they have opinions, but if they interview someone who gives a different opinion then them, then they use ad homium attacks to defend their own opinion. This is especially obvious when they interview anybody of the Democrat party. Where as they tend to bow-out their opinions to Rebulican's who's opinions differs from their own.
