Way to go with ZCom. I used it for about 3 years, until recently when I moved to phpBB for my new site. I kept the old forums as read-only for reference when then yesterday I noticed they were "defaced" by the worm that hit Massassi. :(

Hehe, I still have the logo I made for you for ZCom^2 :D

Anyway, the big competitors right now are:

Free:
PHPBB (Most popular, although not necessarily the best. A little slow, but the mods are huge, along with the themes. Also well known for insecurities)
YABB
Ikonboard

Paid:
vBulletin (What this site now uses, and arguably the best out there. Also VERY popular, used by most business sites that can actually afford to buy board software.)
UBB (The old boards. BLEH)
Invision Boards

Wow YaBB is still in it and they are still using CGI? Huh

Invision is free.

Btw zan, if you're not fed up with me never having time to code, I might have time to produce and donate some code to z2 :p if it is still in production, I hope ..

Id plug one of the forums Ive written, but none of them were ever of release quality. :\
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I setup several Ikonboards years ago and I was quite satisfied. At the time they used CGI with a MySQL/PgSQL backend. Pretty fast if I recall, at least for the small boards I did. I imagine they're on PHP now.

look at this one:

http://webfx.eae.net/webboard/

you will need to use IE to see the cool version. Too damn bad for firefox users, but its worth it. blow the dust off of Ie and take a look.

^^ Yuck. I like the firefox version a lot better.

Also, its really stupid (imo) to design a bulletin board only for users of one browser... especially if your target audience is going to be the kind of people that use firefox often.

No I didn't. I was giving "popular" boards. I've yet to run across a board running on FuseTalk, and over all these years, if I haven't hit one, I don't think I am going to :p
