Because my sister and her husband are taking a trip to Chicago this weekend, I'm forcing to stay at their apartment to watch the place and take care of their cat. Because they don't have a DSL installed in the apartment, I'm going to be WITHOUT BROADBAND SUPPORT FOR FIVE DAYS AND MUST BE SUBJECTED TO THE HORRORS THAT IS KNOWN AS DIAL-UP. Please pray for me, my brothers that I might ba able to pull through this trial in my life!

During my Gentoo install, my download speed averaged somewhere around 1000 KBps. And that was from slow servers.

... oh I guess I should add that my brother-in-law has an X-Box with Kotor, Halo 1, and Halo 2 so its not a total lost

Yeah. My advice would be to ignore the lack of broadband and do other things. I know, I know, I'm not suggesting you go out and get a life or anything, we all know the internet is far superior to the real world, but just for this short period. Try reading, watch some films, play some xbox, possibly leave the house if you dare. Whenever my internet is down, trying to use dial-up or sitting on the PC without it is just poop, so I go do something else entirely.

Just want to point out that my post was meant to be read in joking manner, in case you really think I'm sad over my suspension of broadband. I'm actually not all that bothered that I don't have DSL right now because I have an online class that requires me to do some reading so I really don't have a lot of time for games. When I do want to play, I can play WoW because that games performs pretty good on a dial-up. I haven't seen much difference between dial-up and broadband when playing that game. As for other games, I really haven't been playing action online games as of late so I'm not concerned about that. My brother-in-law's XBox has some good games so I think I'll make time to play through both Halo 1 and 2 and Kotor while I'm here. As for leaving the house... I rather not since I don't know the neighborhood. Its one of those apartments that's a closed community so I shouldn't worry about burglers but I rather be safe than sorry if you can understand what I mean. My brother-in-law actually left me a few swords (real ones, not fake plastic ones) in case I need it for protection, lol.

Ha, I just lived through two weeks of dial-up.

And for three of those days, I had NO INTERNET AT ALL.

I'm a true survivor.

I connect at a maximum of 28800, and according to my phone and cable companies, there's no plan to provide broadband to my area. No, I don't want to get satellite, because I can still play games with my dialup (JK/MotS and WoW). What third world country do I live in, you ask? The United States of America.
