Random questions thread

I've had a quote stuck in my head all day and I have no clue where it came from or who said it.

"And he said, 'Be ye angels?' and we said 'nay! We are but men!'"

Where did I get this? It's really bugging me. And since this isn't much to base an entire thread on, do you have any random questions you want answered by the combined wit and brainpower of the massassi?

Why is it that I am allergic to milk and my grandparents and uncle are dairy farmers?

Your grandparents probably enjoy tormenting you. An interesting mental image springs to mind - it's like a little kid waving a cat in front of an SUV.

Your uncle...I can't explain that one. It's probably just a coincidence.

What color does a Smurf turn if you step on them?

Someone already discovered that they turn blue if you strangle them. Actually they stay blue, but it's not that big of a deal.

ah, I was going to make one of these a while ago, but wanted more questions before I did, I still need the answers though -

I changed from Opera to Firefox a little while ago. I had Opera set to open when windows starts (along with mIRC, WMP and stuff) but can't work out how to change it now. I can't find any kind of startup option in control panel. (Windows XP)

Is someone who engages in Live Action Roleplaying a LARPer or a LARPee? (I have been pondering this for months)

Does the y = x line on a graph have any other name? I'm writing my dissertation and I keep referring to it so a different term would be good.

And that's all I can think of right now, thanks!

LARPer. They are doing the LARPing, not having the LARPing done to them. [My random question - does anyone else think that sounds incredibly rude?]

x = y? :p
Alternately, a bit more wordy: "the line passing through the origin with a gradient of 1"

Maeve, just copy the icon from the desktop/start menu to the startup folder in your start menu. Bob'syourmother'sbrother! :)

Where is this really bad quote from? "I want him dead! D.E.D. Ded!" I think it's said by some mobster in some really bad movie.

What's the name of that one band that has the lead singer who does Mongolian Throat Singing?

no idea about Jessica Simpson, but Paris Hilton is just that right combination of stupidly rich, sluttishly attractive and desperate for attention.

Oh, and why is it that sin x over x has no differential? (Or integral... I can't remember which).

Sex tapes and crappy TV's shows have made them what they are... but you got to think who is worse... them for being uneducated or the people for watching them and supporting them.

I can recall hearing that quite a few times, but I can't bring any names to mind.
My earliest memory of such a quote is some early 80's movie. And yes, it was some dumb gangster.

How do I insert an equation into Word?

most of the stuff I've done, I've just gone and found a pic of it online if it's too complicated for me to just write, but I can't find anywhere with the same terminology that I've got in my textbook. It involves a limit to infinity and the capital sigma for summation with the doodads on top and bottom so if someone knows how I can write that stuff myself on here, that would also help.

The D-E-D dead quote sounds like something from the movie Oscar to me, but it may be Robin Hood Men in Tights, I don't know for sure.

and my question would be: Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

A woodchuck could chuck no amount of wood, since a woodchuck can't chuck wood.

When I was in Sixth Form, I used something called "Equation Editor" in Word for my Maths coursework. I don't know if it's still a part of Word, or you have to dl and install it, but it should be under the Insert menu.

I dug up this link on it, should get you started.

Your other option is to use LaTeX.

How much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? A wood chuck would chuck as much wood as a wood chuck could chuck wood.
