http://www.ni9e.com/

AMAZING design/street art website. There are no words that explain how much I love their stuff.

This particular peice was done with a bit of marker and a custom flash program. Fi5e, one of the designers, wrote out his tag and input it into flash. With his program he then drew out the design you see below. There is a video of this process under Typo Illustra II. There is also a simplified version of the flash program he used linked on that page.

I make it a point never to use any web site that is composed entirely of flash.

Oh and in reference to GBKs comment, and I guess Freelancers too:

What is wrong with a flash website if it is done nice? I understand that some flash websites are absolutley horrid, but there are ones that are done very nice.

Flash is becoming somewhat standard in web design these days, so I really dont see what the problem is.

3D? I see some stuff which is probably pre-rendered, unless you're talking about something past the first screen.

There are several 3d programs available for flash now. The major one is Swish, which allows you to export meshes from 3DSM or whatever. It's a very awesome program.

As far as these sites go, seen em before and they're cool. As a designer, I enjoy looking at portfolio sites like this to get new ideas and just see what's new. These sites aren't meant to be looked at more than once, though, as they're just portfolios meant to get someone a job. Flash based webpages with actual content are horrible for the most part.

The problem is:
1) its never done nice
2) Flash is slow
3) Flash is mostly Windows-centric. While Linux has a fairly recent version available (and I use that term loosly), ports to other OSs are rare, and even then, vastly obsolete.
4) The whole concept of Flash-based interfaces makes me sick.
Flash cartoons? Fine.
Flash animations demonstrating a product for a retailer? Great.
Flash intros to webpages with no SKIP link, save for one shown at the end of the 46 minute long animation? No. That effectively blocks out browsers that either lack support for Flash, or have it disabled.
Web sites completely composed of Flash? Hell no. If your going to write web app, there are far better methods than Flash.

Websites made entirely in flash will also get incredibly poor search engine rankings since google cant read any links or even text!

Flash websites are annoying because:
They're a fixed width and height, meaning on any resolution other than the one it was designed for the whole site will look very lonely.

Sounds. Why must people feel the need to put annoying sounds or even music in their .swf files?

Annoying animations. Often with flash sites you have to watch several seconds of animation before it will display the content you want to read.

Flash is only good for games and cartoons.

I understand what you mean completely, but I urge you to at least look at the sites I posted again.
Neither of them have those annoyances you listed.

Well, the sofake interface is at a fixed resolution, but the ni9e one is not.
I do agree about annoying animations when you click on the buttons, but this is where something like sofake innovates.

In my opinion, these are two sites that utilize flash nicely. ni9e does not use flash entirely which is what I like about the design.

Yes, I am sure there could be a different way to do all of this, but flash is currently becoming an acceptable way to do it.

You mean the site that claims carbon dating is a conspiracy, the world was created in six days, 6000 years ago? The one that claims that the recent tsunami had nothing to do with the 'junk science lies' of tectonics, is a remainder of Noah's flood and shows the true power of this God of Love?

Man, I hope you listed that site for comedy.
