Finally, a month after getting Debian, I got X Server working. I still have a bit to learn to make it work more effieciently and like I want it to, but it finally works. Between lack of video drivers in the version that came with the last stable distro, and the pain it was to get my mouse to work, and the endless surfing in Lynx to find the information, I finally have a running Linux partition. All I need to do now is get my sound working. But that's another battle for another day.

I'm off to download Blender, as it renders so much faster under Linux than under Windows.

Ok, real quick, even if it does belong in the tech forum, I'm gonna ask it here. How do I keep my kicker bar from hiding? I want it always on top. Also, can I make it so windows just open in a set location, without me having to specify the location?

A lot of people are really sick of people like us raving about linux, and it's that kind of thing that gives them an oppertunity for them to yell at us...

eh? I'm just speaking the truth from my experience with it. I apologize for my ignorance, but really, give me a break. It's my first day using a working X-Server, other than on Knoppix, but that doesn't really count.

Don't worry, I'm not against you being a linux user myself. It's just that some people get really pissed off when one says anything about linux being better than windows.

It's really just when it's totally irrelevant to the topic i.e. someone asks for help and *edited* someone says "use linux" or advises for linux and pulls the "OH you're using windows, I'm so clever for not helping you in any way". That's annoying and stupid. In this case, it was ok because he's genuinly excited about his new OS, and he's not forcing it down someones throat on someone elses thread who doesn't even care!

I got it figured out. It just did that when I started X-Server from within the shell. Now that it starts automatically on bootup, everything works the way I expect it to.
